Does anyone know of an online support group for parents of young adults with ADD? I need help helping my son navigate the working world.

My ADHD son is now 25 and I guess he's still considered a "young adult"! I don't know of any support groups for "kids" this age, but I would be happy to chat about our experiences with ADHD!

one of my 'young adults' is 31 so 25 definitely counts, lol!

I would also like an online support group for young adults. My son is also 25 and would love to know what your experience has been with treatment? My son is just starting Vyvanse. This is his second stimulant trial. He didn't have much luck with the last one Concerta , it made his anxiety worse. He has been taking Stratera for years, but it wasn't as effective as a stimulant for his focus. Have you tried anything natural for your son, that is if he has been compliant with treatment?

I have an almost 18 year old. I don't know of any support groups geared towards young adults with ADD, but I think it would be a great idea and would be happy to be a part of it. I could use some help navigating the future with him.

I hear that!

Amen!

It seems like once they turn 18, support for parents dries up. For me personally, the college years brings on a whole different kind of crazy. They believe they are adults, can manage all of their Affairs and make logical sound decisions. Which some he does, however when they do make bad decisions, the consequences are way more serious, then when he was 10. Oh and by the way, maybe some of you have dealt with this scenario:

He lives at home and because he pays me for his cell phone use, his share of his car insurance, and his car payment, he believes he is self sufficient!

I honestly don't know want would be worse for me, kicking him out I'm letting him see what it really means to be self-sufficient. Or the pain from the constant worry if we would force him to get his own apartment.

I have to laugh about the "self-sufficient" comment - my 25 year old son likes to remind me that he's an "adult and can make his own decisions" while we are still paying most of his bills!

It is true that there are no support groups and no resources for parents with older ADHD kids. I would be happy to chat with you and anyone else who has "almost adult" kids with ADHD. I can honestly say it's been a rocky road!!
