Intuniv

Hello everyone, my 6 year old son has been on Vyanse 30mg since October. He has improved in school etc however he wont eat all day until dinner time and has lost weight. His paedtrician will be looking at either adding on Intuniv or switching soley to Intuniv. Has anyone has any success with Intuniv over Vyanse. Thanks.

Everything I have read states that Intuniv is good but not as good as Vyvanse or other stimulants. Have you discussed ways to address the weight issues?

Thank you. Yes, we are trying medication free weekends so he can catch up on his eating. The only thing is that his hyperactivity seems worse than before he started Vyanse.

We found that intuniv takes the edge off the stimulant so there is a slight more willingness to eat. Intuniv by itself was not sufficient to allow our son to focus, however. We had high hopes, but he needs the stimulant to focus at school. You might want to get a shorter acting stimulant so there are more down times where your child is hungry.

My grandson is on Intuniv in addition to Straterra. No eating problems.

You might ask your dr about Periactin. It’s an old school med that can be prescribed off-label as an appetite stimulant to counteract the appetite loss. I think it is supposed to be taken about 90 minutes before meals.
