Hello , so my 6 yr old son was taking Vyvanse but the first 4 days omg they were bad !!!! He was calm but with an attitude and always angry , to the point he got dark thoughts so we stopped it .

So today is day 2 of concerta and we will see what happens but I feel like he’s a bit more hyper can that happen?? He is taking 18mg of concerta .

What strength of vyvanse? Getting off the extended release for my kids was BAD but the good part was good. It’s such a tough battle. I wonder though if it was too much for just a 6 yr old. Vyvanse lowest is 20 and that’s still a big difference for a 6 yr old

They had given him 20 mg . The lowest . When he didn’t take them he was back to normal . I was so happy about it

Glad you moved past the last medication!

Is he more hyper while Concerta is active, or after it wears off? My son is on something similar - it doesn’t calm his body the way the non-stimulants did, but he has more focus / control. He also needed to mature a little bit, but after starting the medication he seemed to catch up in just a month or so.

Also - it is the end of the school year. I work with elementary school students, and they are all a little hyper from now until summer break.

Yes the last medication was no joke . It was bad . He is a bit hyper when the medication is active but like your son he has more Focus and more control , before we would take him to the park and play and it was a big thing because he didn’t know how to control him self or play and yesterday I was in shock 😱 in how he was . Awesome

I’m so happy to hear that the park went well!

If the little extra hyper is tolerable, I would let the prescribing physician know at the next appointment what you are seeing, but I’d also be willing to wait it out / see if anything changes after a week or two or even until summer break - especially if you aren’t seeing other side effects.

Fingers crossed!

Yes I have to see the dr. On Friday , with this medication he is active he wants to be doing more but is no more like when he is not on it . Because he controls himself . He has moments he gets moody and then laugh but nothing big . Today will be day 3 and I’m praying and having faith this is the one . I have 2 of my younger cousins ages 12, 11 with the same problem as my son and they are taking conserta as well and np, so hopefully it’s good .

My fingers are crossed 🤞.

I have a foster son who was diagnosed about a year ago with ADHD. He is on Vyvance. He is angry most of the time and mean or unkind with his words and actions. I am wondering if the Vyvance has that effect on him too. We haven’t known him without the meds but we know he needs the meds b/c we’ve forgot to give it to him a few times. So just wondering if others have this experience too?

Wow , my son was angry and nasty attitude and winning all the time and he was so angry he wanted to throw something or he got aggressive with us but he got dark thoughts , by saying he wishes he was never born , maybe the world would’ve been a better place without him . ( with Vyvanse) And he has never been like that EVER !!! So the moment he said that I stopped . I got the medicine and into the garbage and it was only day 4 so , maybe you should check with the dr . And see maybe he can try something else ..

It could be - definitely worth consulting the prescribing physician. Some medications had made my son more irritable as well.

Hello , well it’s been a while since I’ve been here . It’s just been busy with my son . So I told you guys he was given concerta 18 mg and it was working well but he had little episodes but it was fine but by 4 in the afternoon it was done , so the dr gave him a higher dose 27mg but it made hIm much more hyper . And in school it’s not going well . He can’t to seem to keep his hands to himself , and the teacher says he is very much excited all the time , can’t stay in his chair or listen . Worse part he pushed a teachers hand beacause he says she was in his way .. I’m going to see the dr on Friday . Should we go back down to 18 mg ? Or try a different medication.???
