This morning we started Concerta for my 5 and 1/2 year old adhd and very impulsive boy. Doctor says we should see results today or tomorrow. Any experience with a younger child on Concerta? I am full of emotions today... scared, guilty and optimistic.

I think that's what my son takes and it works wonders. He changed mee last year and even his attitude changed . Only thing that worries me about ADHD is will my son be on med forever?? Also when he becomes an adult will he be responsible and take meds or focus life without them 😒

I worry about this too. My brother had ADHD but not diagnosed when we were kids. Now he is a functioning adult with ADD and he is Impulsive.. but he graduated from college top of his class. He is just very unorganized and strong willed. :)

Really!!! You give me lots of hope!! I never even thought about my son going to college! I was gonna try my best to make sure he goes, but middle school, high school, and college scares me!! I will just continue to pray for my son and trust in GOD and put him in his hands. I am very happy to see your comment!!😊

Yes, really. :) he lives in Texas now- we are in Indiana.. he does his own thing but that’s ok. College is always possible, talk about it now! My kids are 5 and 3 and can tell me where they are going to college. ;) (I’m a teacher)

My daughter started concerta at 6 and it was like flipping a switch. She went from hating school and being behind to loving it and being a top student. She is now in 5th grade and still doing well with it.

Morning

My son takes 27mg of concerta a day. Honestly it works, I use to not give it to him on the weekend and on school break. But I realized that only made things worst he can become very emotional and can sometimes be aggressive when he does not get his way. However the medication is only used to treat his impulsivity and attentiveness. Defiance is a choice as I tell my son.

Sounds like my son. Yesterday just seemed like the meltdowns were over little things that normally wouldn’t have caused a meltdown. It’s just hard to know or tell if it’s his normal behavior or the medicine. He is very defiant and we struggle with that also. His psychologist and Ot has helped with that some.. hoping age does too!!

Well.. today he is a different person. He is kind and loving to his sister and has played with legos quietly at the kitchen table the entire day. I keep thinking something is wrong. Our home is NEVER this quiet. Now, he hasn’t been asked to do something he doesn’t want to do... yet. So we shall see...

It sometimes takes up to three weeks to know if it is helping or making things worse. My grandson was on Focalin XR for years. It lost its effectiveness in middle school. Tried switching him to Concerta which the doctor tried to say was a long acting version. He got so violent on it. I called an emergency help line and ended up taking him off it immediately.

I'd love to know if the Concerta worked. We have an Appt with the Psychiatrist Monday and I hear so much different feedback on the meds. My son is 9 and recently diagnosed with ADHD and EFD. The meds scare me as well.
