My year old son was diagnosed with ADHD. We asked about behavioral therapy early on but was told it was more for those with behavior issues. We think he needs it to help learn to cope with difficult social situations. Has anyone had success with seeing a psychologist for behavioral therapy?

Behavioral therapy help
He’s just a year old?
Behavioral therapy did help my son with coping strategies, we only went for about 6 months.
We have been doing therapy alone for two years (now 8 year old). It has been fantastic for him to develop a trusting relationship with his therapist. She helps him discuss things with us and has endless patience running him through play therapy to work in his social skills and behavioral issues. She has helped immensely with his picky eating and some with his hyperactivity. We still get calls from school and he still hasn’t had success making and keeping friends, but therapy has been worth it. We are going to keep him in it and start investigating medication options. His impulsivity doesn’t have a foreseeable behavioral fix and between social needs and his “bad boy” image with the school we feel we need to try everything.
Do you have an early intervention program? I assume they could help you. You could call your office of education and see if they know how to help you. Its prior to starting school.
Hope they can help you
