Dear momma's and poppa's and caregivers of bright and quirky ADHD brained girls , anyone have pro's or con's or insights about Waldorf vs. Public school montessori followed by public jr. high? My 9 y/o daughter has ADHD and dysgraphia and I'm trying to determine what environment will help her thrive. There are formidable considerations for both, including cost, transition to 9th grade public, no IEP support if we go private. Would be so very appreciative of perspectives from those who might have tried both or had positive/negative experience with one or the other for ADHD brained girls. Thank you so much!!!

Waldorf or Public Montessori for 9 y/o girl with ADHD brain and dysgraphia?
Mommaeb- thanks for bringing this question to the group.
I happen to teacher in a public school system and one schools that I teach at is a Waldorf.
I have a suggestion please go to those two schools and tour, meet the two teachers and get a feel for how the schools feel. What is the atmosphere at the school? How do they respond to your child? Does the admin. Respond to you?
Then consider both, also how will your child get services? Will the school district give him help or does the school give him help, testing and accommodations?
Good luck with your choice?
Does anyone have experience with Waldorf curriculum and a child with ADHD brain? Thanks so much I would be grateful to hear your experiences. We are trying to figure out the right placement between Montessori and Waldorf. Thank you!
Mommaeb- I did a random search about Waldorf and found an amazing resource that I think will really help you better understand their curriculum of Waldorf.

I would look that over and see if it helps you get a better feel for what they believe is thd best way to educate children is.
I am not understanding you question about your child's brain ( I think you are asking about how she learns?) maybe you can explain what you are looking for and we can help you more.
Let us know if this is helping you better understand the difference styles of education/life choices.
We would also need to find something about Montessori.
Most likely you child would need (if she qualifies foe) assistance with an academic plan to help her with learning (IEP or 504) to accommodate or modify her learning in whatever learning environment you pick her to be in. This means she will get help with special tools (special calculator, tape recorder, books on tapes, etc..) or extra time, or a special teacher to describe things in a special way to help her learn. This might the school that does this ir the public school that does this. Depending on how the services are set up.
My son went to a Waldorf school after public 1st grade not working out for him. He THRIVED. There were cons as well - one of his classmates had language issues and her vocabulary consisted of "no!" (however she has since improved over the semester) and he sometimes would copy her when he gets home... Unfortunately the school closed due to funding issues. We ended up sending our son to a creative progressive private school (or so we thought) which turned out HORRIBLY.
The deciding factor is usually the school and most importantly the teacher your daughter will be learning from.
One teacher was amazing at my son's last school unfortunately she was not his home teacher and there were politics at the school, etc.
Good luck and best wishes to you.
