Hi everyone! The results are finally in! I decided a month after my son start Concerta 27mg to to the gene test to see if the drug is metabolizing in his system correctly. I am from Canada so the company I found is called BiogeniQ. The first week on Concerta I saw some changes but after that there was no changes. My son said he did not feel any different on Concentra and he still feels scattered and not focused and cannot control his outburst most of the time even though he is trying. The results came back that concerta is a risk of nonresponse due to reduced effectiveness. The drugs he should be taking the metabolize correctly are Dixedrine, Adderall XR, Vyvanse and for non psychostimulants Strattera or Intuniv. Now I am not sure what drug to pick for him. I have heard of Adderall but I am not sure he should have a stimulant or go with non-stimulant. Any thoughts out there?

thanks for listening :)

Usually, a stimulant such as Adderall or Vyvanse has a bigger effect (better focus) than Strattera or Intuniv.

jaxy53- I am impressessed that you did the testing and would. Love to learn more about it since no one in my journey has told me about this.

Here is the thing about medication, there so many with different effectiveness times (short acting. Long acting, etc..) And how they interact I really think a psychiatrist should be guiding you.

One last thing, the comment your son, my son says the same and he is really stable right now. I have been told they are not going to notice a hugh difference.

Also remember their metabolism and needing coverage for all day so timing ot correctly.

everybody is different . What works for my son or myself will not work for another kid .

I will try and see . Stimulant have negative side effects . Straterra takes time to work like 2,3 weeks . Personally I will try straterra before I do a stimulants. I have read really bad side effect on some kids with adderal and vyanse

I was told you should see immediate results with stimulants. If it’s not working get with the doctor. I also had testing done for my son through Genesight. The recommendations were adderral, dexidrine, stratterra, and vyvanse. I was a little disappointed because we had already tried adderral and he became extremely agitated and aggressive. He attacked me a couple of times and but me. It was a nightmare. A psychologist told us adderral was better for adults and they had seen wonderful results with strattera for kids. We are still on Guanfacine and Focalin.

We only tried Adderral for few days , and similar results: agitated and aggressive.

I wonder if adderral would be ok than for my son. He is 15. I was thinking strattera for him. Our dr knows nothing about ADHD drugs so I have to go with my research in hand to him.

Hi! My grandson has been taking adderall since he was 6 he is now 14 he tolerates it well and was able to concentrate in school. Like a lot of ADHD children he doesn't like school so he doesn't do well. We find it's getting harder now that he's getting older he thinks if he doesn't want to do the work he shouldn't have to.

Jaxy, you dont have pediatric psychiatrist in the area? Someone who knows about ADHD?

I had a child neurologist told me that those tests are not always accurate. You have to go with what actually seems to be working with your child. My younger grandson can't do stimulants at all and is on Strattera but also has to have risperidone to keep his anger under control.

Like someone else said the children don't always notice a difference you need to watch for it. Except my period except my grandsons have been able to tell me when they can focus better in school.
