Feeling helpless

Hello all,

Over the past month my sons anxiety has been really bad. He had a panic attack this morning and was so anxious; I almost wanted to take him to emergency. I managed to get him off to school (he is doing well there per the teacher as I checked in) but this is becoming more of the norm. We are at a loss, I am fearful my son won’t ever feel better. He’s 10 years old, he should be out playing and enjoying being a kid. My heart is breaking for him. His current diagnosis is ADHD but we are wondering if we should have him re-evaluated. I have had several people express that they think he is on the spectrum. IDk....feeling overwhelmed, exhausted, sad and my stomach hurst :(

Hi BercotP sorry to hear what you are going through. First thing is he on medication? If so please ensure the medication is not causing him more harm than good. During the time of mediation trial for my son Adderal made him extremely angry and depress.

I am so sorry to hear what you are going through. Anxiety / depression are alarming and yes, you should have your child see a doctor immediately.

My son has a combo of adhd/ anxiety / odd. After many months of observing his behavior, it is clear that the anxiety is the factor that leads to odd and not the opposite. My son has changed medications 4 times since September. Monitoring every side effects and having a candid communication with his doctor help. We recently switch to an anti anxiety med, very low dose. I had never seen my son enjoying life the way he does now. He is way less defiant and goes with the flow without constant drama (we have him in behavioral therapy as well). He is 7 and I believe this is one of the best decision I could have taken so far. Good luck.

I would suggest an assessment for anxiety. I am sorry your son had this experience. My son had a panic attack while he and I were on a road trip. My only choice was an ER; the small town did not have a singje urgent care. He’s only had one since. He has IBS. He has been tested at a highly regarded children’s hospital; the culprit is anxiety. Best wishes.

Has he been evaluated by a Psychiatrist? They are the ones who can guide you in the right direction regarding mental health. Anxiety is a disease when it is constantly popping up.

I suffer of anxiety and panic attacks. I'm now on Effexor and the panic attacks and anxiety is gone. Good luck!

My 11 year old grandson has always had high anxiety and ADHD medications alone did not help him deal with that. He has been on anxiety medicine for years and it's just recently doing well with his Med combo.
