Good afternoon, I'm a grandmother of a 9 year old girl. She is in the fourth grade. She was diagnosed with ADHD when she was in the second grade. I have full custody of her. My biggest problem is getting and keeping her focus and organized. I need help please. Any suggestions or ideas. Thank you

As far as being organized, if she doesn't already have this: a big wall calendar with all important dates on there, such as test dates, field trips, quiz dates, etc. is very visual and helpful. Also consider a white board which breaks down each week day. Such as Monday: Flute, PE. Tuesday: Library day, bring back books. Wednesday: Wear spirit shirt, etc. My 11 year old is ADHD and both helped her. Now we only need to so the white board. The calendar is no longer needed! For soccer we had a lost of everything she needed to do, step by step. Ie. Get into shirt & shorts uniform, put on shin guards, put hair in a pony tail, put on sun screen. Everything needed 2B specific and broken down. She no longer needs to look at the list, but that took years! Of course, make sure they work with you on this. Kids respond better if U keep them in the loop rather than just present something to them. One word of advice, I feel our daughter only flourished when we finally broke down and put her on meds, Vyvanse 2B specific. We didn't want to at first, but I realized our home was full of lists everywhere. That's when we knew we needed help. I hope this helps.
