Hello my name is Lorena. I have had many concerns about my daughter since she has been in kindergarten and never new what was wrong with her. Her teachers and I would always try to find out what was the cause for her being distracted all the time. I hope that they could find out what’s really going on with her.

Hi, Lorena!

Hopefully you guys can figure out what’s happening and find a suitable solution! It’s a stressful time for sure, we’ve been there definitely. Hang in there, mama!

Have you brought this up to her pediatrician? That was a big starting point for us once my son’s preschool teacher mentioned some behaviors she felt were behind what would be expected for his age.

I had mentioned some concerns to her pediatrician before but she’s had several. It was so much of a big concern till now cuz we had started seeing an improvement in her schooling. I just felt maybe she just didn’t want to be at school and maybe something was going on, so I got even more involved with the teachers . The last two years the teachers went beyond what was needed to help her improve in her studies.

My daughter's 1st pediatrician was no help. I had concerns when my daughter was about a year and not talking where we could understand except a few words and she was behind other kids in different areas. I still am beating myself up. I trusted her, I had 2 other daughter's with her (pediatrician) and never had any issues. All be the other 2 had no issues like my 3rd. I did get her evaluated through the school system when she was 2 1/2 and she qualified for preschool. (Free to me because she was delayed) she started when she turned 3 and had 3 years of preschool it helped with the talking and understanding quite a bit. She did Kindergarten and her teacher saw no issues. Even when she was sick a lot, didn't do any homework or make up work when sick and took forever to do her work, touched everything, got in people's bubbles a lot. Was tardy almost every day and sometimes didn't get to school till after 9 when school started 7:45 a.m. I took her to a developmental pediatrician had to wait over 6 months for the appointment. Found out she has ADHD of both kinds, OCD, ODD, Sensory issues and Anxiety to name a few. Now they want to put her on medicine. Her new pediatrician suggests medicine for ADHD and the developmental pediatrician suggests medicine for anxiety. My problem is we aren't sure we want medicine for our 7 year old just yet and we have to figure out which drug to use because we can't do both they don't mix

Sorry, so long just wanted to say go with your gut doctors don't always know your child like you.

First thing you need to do is document everything you’re concerned about. If your pediatrician doesn’t take you seriously, it might be time to look for a new one. She will need a formal diagnosis from a psychologist in order to receive the benefits required from the school system. From there you have to work with the school to get her on an IEP (Individualized Education Plan) whic will outline any special considerations she will need (more time on tests, individual help from a paraprofessional or counselor, etc). Once you have a diagnosis you can also get occupational therapy to help her learn how to do things she struggles with.

Good luck

She was already be Assessed for an iep in 3rd grade and didn’t qualify for it. She was seen by a psychologist And everything once again was normal. So I spoke again to her resent doctor and addressed my concerns once again and requested a package for adhd I was at my last straw the teachers and I couldn’t figure out what’s going on so when I received the paperwork and started filling it out a lot of the questions really described my daughter and her teachers this last school year also agreed. I received a phone this past weekend from a doctor to go in and get asssessed for case of adhd that often gets missed

Request an assessment in writing through the school district.

If she has adhd they the school can not denie you a 504 plan or a iep it is listed in the qualification under other health impairment. You can find sample letter online to help write the school a formal letter requesting one which you have a diagnosis.

What is a 504 plan n ver heard of that

Hi. I’m a special education teacher. A 504 is a plan that will give her special accommodations but she will still be in a regular class which seems to be her level. The 504 could do many different things dependent upon what the child’s needs are. Examples include extra time on tasks or tests , separate testing location, strategic seating etc. There are many. I can go on and on. You may be able to even google “504 accommodations.” The resource room specialist or the special education directors could probably help you best. You’ll need to provide them with a snapshot ( description of issues. Including strengths and weaknesses) of your child so they can best help Then you’ll need a doctors note. Good luck. Keep pushing forward.
