Hi! I'm a mom of 4 kiddos, and we have multiple diagnosises. My oldest daughter is almost 8 years old, and she has autism and ADHD. My second child is 6 years old, and has a severe speech delay and ADHD.
My third child, my almost 4 year old son, has struggled with a severe speech delay like his brother, and during an autism assessment, the evaluator told me "I don't see autism, which was your concern, and why you brought him in. What I do see is a speech delay and ADHD," and she turned and looked at the toys scattered around her testing table and turned back to me, finishing her thought, "an average 3-1/2 year old child has an attention span of about 7-10 mins. Samuel hasn't played with a toy, or maintaned attention for more than 5 minutes the whole time I've been with him this morning." As she was speaking, he was running around the room, yelling and laughing, dropping to the floor and rolling, army style. Toys got kicked, baby sister got bumped.....the room was insanely loud.
I sat there, discouraged. A third diagnosis of ADHD in one family?!?! This seemed crazy. Yet in my heart, I totally agreed with her. I saw it.
Is there anyone else in my shoes??
