My son psychiatrist prescribed aripripazole to my 5yr old due to impulsiveness and extremely defiant behavior. He is also taking guanfacine twice a day which helps with fidgeting but not behavior. Anyone has experience with this Aripiprazole for adhd? Thank you
Aripiprazole: My son psychiatrist... - CHADD's ADHD Pare...
Aripiprazole
I have not heard of this drug but I recommend you find a behavior analyst to help with his behavior.
Aripiprazole is sold under the brand name Abilify, which from what I understand, is an antipsychotic, not an ADHD medication. So prob prescribed for the defiant behavior, and then the guanfacine for the ADHD?
My 5 year old son was also prescribed aripiprazole as s mood stabilizer by his pediatrician. Once we started working with a psychiatrist she switched him to Risperdol, which Abilify is in the same class. He was then prescribed Guanfacine for the impulsive behavior of adhd. Still working out the correct combination of medications, but I think we’re on the right track.
Yes, my son was put on both of those 10/2014 when he was 8 yrs old. I think it slowed my son down enough so he could concentrate better, but then he started experiencing extreme fatigue and would sleep all the time. So we changed to Abilify and Intuniv ER, and it was the same, his behavior got better and now 12, we took him completely off meds 05/2016 and as time passes and he learned coping skills and different strategies to get his voice out there, his behavior is good. His emotions are what is really frustrating because he gets upset over so many things, he likes to argue also. It does get a little easier as time goes by.
Thanks
