I've spoken. To my son's teacher numerous times about the way the library teacher is and has been with him since 2nd grade he is now in the 4th they go every Monday and it seems like no matter what he is always getting on the bad list or getting sent back he tells me mom I didn't even do anything and my son is super honest with me when he does do something like oh they said stop talking so I started whistling or whatever and every kid in class will say he was being good we don't know what he did if it was just his friends telling me that then I'd be like oh ok well the other day she looks at my son and tells him you are just disrespectful and rude that really ticks me off To me no teacher should say anything to a child at. All like that it should go to the teacher principal or parents I was telling his teacher how I felt and she said well I guess he was talking alot and got sent back to class I don't care that is inappropriate in my eyes and he has ADHD of course he's chatty am I overreacting
Need advice: I've spoken. To my son's... - CHADD's ADHD Pare...
Need advice
You're not overreacting at all. I would personally ask to speak to her to understand exactly what it is that your son might and might not be doing. She probably does not understand how ADHD affects kids and how negative input can affect them as well. If she does have a problem she needs to redirect it
Thank you I just personally believe that no teacher or anybody should speak down to children last year they changed the way that they logged into their computer's at school from using their lunch numbers to using their full date of birth after using lunch numbers for 4 yrs my son was forgetting to put 2008 and put 08 and was having problems getting in so he kept asking for help for the first week of doing it the new way after the 3-4 time of him asking for help she said to him I'm not going to help you anymore it is not my job to keep showing you how to log in you should know how to do this by now the other day she was calling him Dargen his name is Taegan ( Taygan ) he said that's not my name her reply is I DON'T CARE WHAT YOUR NAME IS she has been this way with him since he was in 2nd grade and he is now in the 4th grade she is the library teacher and always putting him on the bad list or sending him back to class he is really honest with me when he gets in trouble like for example my teacher said stop talking so I started whistling or whatever but all 25 kids will say he was good we don't know what he did if it was just his friends sticking up for him then I'd be suspicious she's a lil rude to another little boy too but not as bad my son thinks it's because they are both 1/2 black I don't know what to think
Lostmama your advice is spot on! I continually say that our education system needs to be informed and educated on how to handle students with ADHD. We have to be our children’s advocate and we have to inform teachers , who don’t understand , the best methods for dealing with our children. The Librarian did come across rude. We all have rough moments . She needs to be called out on her actions.
No you are not over reacting. Some people don't believe ADHD is real they just believe it's bad parenting and they target children with diagnoses. She was very inappropriate with him and it needs to be reported and a meeting with all involved. Maybe the teacher can go with him to library or you show on library day and go with in. I go to my son school all time. I do not allow him to bully and he will not be bullied and especially by adults with they on thoughts, judgements and opinions. Sorry this happen but speak up for Him
I am the same way I've taught him since pre- school you are NEVER EVER to be a bully no matter what and do not ever let your self get bullied either and stick up for those that are getting bullied he has asked me to come sit in library with him on Monday's and his teacher said she'll peek her head in but I doubt she ever did he also has ODD too he has never been in any trouble at school once K-4 he gets good student awards for setting a good example and everything

It sounds like you are an amazing mom and outstanding advocate for your son, my suggestion is to speak to the teacher about it first before going to the principal. Remember you sons realitity is from his own realitity (a second grader, who has ADHD) so he sees the world differently, YES he is honest, YES he is truthful but he is doing something that the teacher is disapproving of so I think a conversation with her would be a great start. I also think you could bring some solutions.
1. Could a parent volunteer/peer help him during the harder times only (maybe its circle time when they read stories) .
2. Maybe he just needs something in his hands to keep him busy so he doesn't have extra energy?
3. Maybe you could go observe what is happening during this time. (Our kids does always understand they are annoying others) .
4. Does the teacher have any suggestions as to how to help keep him there and not be on the bad list?
I hope all of this helps keep you the great work!
