7 year old diagnosed with ADD with disruptive behavior

Finally got the verdict today and they said he has ADD and disruptive behavior. I’m nervous about putting him on a stimulant right away. So his doctor said we could try out Intuniv for a couple weeks on the lowest dose. Has anyone tried this medication? Thoughts?

Keep in mind medications effects every kid differently and while it may work wonders on one kid it could have nasty side effects on another. My son fell into the later group and started displaying aggression and statements of self harm about 2 weeks into taking it and stopped the behavior when we stopped the medication. I would suggest keeping a journal of behaviors good and bad to keep tabs on any off behaviors that may present themselves and call you doctor right away if you notice any changes in his mood. Bottom line is this that is your child and you need to do what you are comfortable with.

I have two boys on medication and I do keep a journal because after a while you forget what you've tried. Intuniv seemed wonderful at first . But then we had severe aggression on it but some people say it's a miracle. Just never know until you try.
