Help, my child is getting aggressive in school

I write this with a heavy heart. My son is in 3rd grade and has ADD, SPD, social anxiety and speech issues. Change is hard for him and this year has been very difficult. After much thought and noticing he was not getting better we decided to medicate. We tried many meds over the summer and then started an ADD med right before school. He soon refused to take any more of the meds and we have had 4 behavior write ups, he had to be picked up from school today because he was throwing chairs, pencils and paper. He has become a safety issue for the other children. The aggressive behavior started this summer and I just don't know what to do. I have an apt with dr tomorrow. How do you get a child to take meds if they dont want to? Please help, what do I do if he gets kicked out of school?

  • I feel your pain so sorry about what you and your son is going through personally I will say from Pass experience There is a great chance that the medication that your son is on is not the right fit for him ,sometime doctors will prescribe a medication and Depending on the weight of the Child it just you too much ,on a lot of these drugs sometimes experimental drugs something new on the market aggression usually comes from the medication is triggering off somethingAnd sometimes when we allow doctors to experiment On all these different medication Our kids respond differently There are two things that The medication will do ,you will have a child Overly drugged up and walking around like a zombie That the focus is not there because you sleep all the time or you can have a child that’s is so High on drugs They almost walking around feeling like a constant Mediport is very hot and usually in medication like that your child have to be drinking a lot a lot of water daily because they will be dry mouth hot and sweaty slightest that triggers him off and the more people come to assess the worse it gets,Do you remember the story about the gorilla in the zoo when the little boy fell in the gorilla den they had to make a choice To kill the gorilla all because if they were to tranquilize the gorilla when the Drug is working in his body he can become very aggressive and rip that child a part now this is how our children feel. all the time So the slightest irritation all hell will break loose my advice maybe you should try taking your son off to Med for a little while let him feel normal again see how he is doing without the drugs one of the things my doctor recommended my son is drinking 2 cups of coffee or tea in school daily and then he is on a strict gluten-free diet so far so good he is such a Sweet child I just don’t want any drugs to alter his behavior, again I will say every child is different and you would know what is changing your child another thing you can try is to give your child half of the tablets of course with the doctors recommendation because this is drugs we have high babies walking around got to not understand what is happening to them and why do you feel in the way they’re feeling and sometimes Aggression is the only way that they can speak out

  • Thank you, as of right now he is not on any meds and has not been for over a month. I do give him coffee in the am. Does ADD cause kids to have aggression problems

  • Sometime it does every case is different but it can also be he is going through withdrawal from the medication he was on because when a child is taking that type of drug it do not just leave they system overnight ,So he could be experiencing withdrawal from the medication Maybe you need to start giving him at least two bottles of coffee to go to school with that will help during the course of the day my son is nine years old and the doctor recommended that I give them up to four cups And it could be switch between coffee and tea

  • Hi, my children have ADHD and are not at all aggressive. Annoying, but not aggressive. Medication has been a gift to our family. The kids get so much less negative feedback and their self confidence / self image has improved. I didn’t want to medicate and resisted for a year while trying other solutions. Life is better for us all with meds. Make the child take them like it is their job, a must. Negative feedback for failure. Sometimes my son believes he is cured and wants to stop. This is a great indication that the meds are working well. Once I let him stop for a few weeks and his unacceptable behaviors returned and he received negative feedback from his friends, teachers, etc and came to understand the meds really are helping him.

  • Went to DR, she said it looks like he has some behavior issues as well. He has agreed to take the meds and hase been good at school the last few days....but scared it will not last.

What meds are your children on?

  • One takes Metadate ER and one takes Metadate CD plus a midday booster. Concerta worked for awhile but this has worked great for over a year.

  • Coffee?

  • Yes coffee and tea

  • My son dr recommended 4 cups of coffee or tea per day

  • No med and he is doing great

  • I have been giving him some in the am...but didn't see a change.

  • The doctor recommended for cups for my son I different one before school and two bottles In school and one when he gets home and so far so good gluten-free foods and snack and no candy all so I got him some special chewy jewelry And pencil toppers from Amazon and it is to help him with his concentration because he loves to chew on things and another thing is the iPad tablet with age-appropriate games and no Violent games mainly car racing And other type of games that is good for the brain
