Hi all, I'm new to this page so hope I am able to get some advice. I've been on morphine for about 5 years, now taking 120mg twice daily along with gabapentin and naproxen and others 🙄, I have had failed spinal surgery. I am not getting a break from pain even with everything I'm on and I'm wondering whether to try and get off the morphine and if anyone knows if that would help? My doctors will just tell me to increase it, I was on 200mg twice a day after my op but I've lowered it myself. Can anyone suggest anything please? Thank you

Hi Saz
I have just joined this site, saw your post and then that youd had no replies!!
I am on thyroid and restless legs forum on HU and they are both well used so you post and you get replies.
I am sorry in that I cant answer your question. Just thought I'd say hello and hope your managing okay.
Did you manage to get help from any pain specialist or your GP?
Warm wishes
Jane 😊
Hi, Saz. I am shocked to read how much morphine you are on and for the length of time. I don't know if you saw my reply to cbrion the other day? I too was put on substantial doses of morphine capsules and Oramorph; after 5 years the whole thing spiralled out of control, so I was put on Methadone instead 🤨. I became so ill that I decided to have a medical detox. It was NOT cheap, but it is the best way to do it. The only problem is that I think the opioids were to blame for my current woes by causing my CNS to malfunction. In essence, I think the best thing would be to get professional advice about having a medical detox; you will have withdrawal symptoms, but they can be managed. I hope the above is helpful to you.
All the very best wishes - I do feel for you. Dolores2
