After my initial referral to ENT for tinnitus and severe single sided hearing loss in April I finally got an appointment at the beginning of December. The doctor then sent me for an MRI at the end of December (7 weeks ago) and since then I have been waiting for the report. I phoned the hospital 2 weeks ago and they said my results were in but they needed to speak to the doctors secretary to get the results sent out. I waited another week and still no results so I phoned the hospital again and they said they would contact the doctors company and get ask for it to be put through as urgent as apparently the doctor that I originally saw was a locum consultant. It’s now been 2 weeks since the original phone call and still no results. I am getting a little bit annoyed knowing the results are there but no-one is letting me know. Any advice would be greatly appreciated as to what I can do next

waiting for mri results

That’s a very long and anxious wait for you . I had my first ENT referral mid September 24, same symptoms as yourself . MRI late October and I got my results 20 th November following the hospital MDT meeting mid November and appointment with the neurosurgeon mid December. I’m now on watch and wait with rescan October 25. Has your GP not had the scan results? It did take a month after my November and December appointments for the letters to be sent to me and to the GP but I’d had the consultations . I would ask your GP to chase it up it and I’d ring the ENT again , too long since your MRI . Hope you get your results soon.
Thank you so much for your reply. I will definitely try and chase this up as i just want to know what’s going on. If I don’t get anywhere soon I have an audiology telephone appointment in a couple of weeks as I am going to hopefully try a hearing aid so hopefully they should have the results. I am just clinging on to the fact that no news is good news 🤞
Hope all goes well at your next scan
Hi,
I take it from what you’ve posted you don’t have any diagnosis as yet? If this is right then try not to panic. ANs are very rare so it’s likely you don’t have one.
If you do, they are usually very slow growing so Drs etc don’t panic about them and results for MRIs seem to go on the back burner.
I’ve had 2 MRIs now for mine, the first was through private health care and so I got the results 2 weeks after scan but the has to wait about 3 months for an MDT update. The second scan was NHS and I waited from mid September to Xmas Eve to get my results. Even then this was just a phone call and I had to chase them up. I’ve been told next year it’s likely I’ll just get a letter!
All of this doesn’t help our anxiety but from my experience the delays are because there’s usually no rush to treat anything and MDTs are often only held monthly. If you’re sick of waiting just keep getting in touch I’m sure you’ll get somewhere soon.
In the meantime try to relax and not let the anxiety get you down. Good luck with whatever comes your way!
Hi. Thank you so much for the reply. Yes no diagnosis so far and i highly doubt it will be anything serious otherwise I get from reading the majority of previous posts i would have heard something by now. I will leave it another couple of weeks and contact them again if i haven’t heard anything.
Hi Sharon. Sorry for your wait, I know, it’s torturous!
Just jumping in to see if you have the GP App. If so have a look or register for it. I found my results had been posted there waaaay before the hospital got in touch!
Good luck! X
update: apparently the doctor who should be reporting on my scan has been off ill so hasn’t even looked at the scan yet and hopefully should get results within the next couple of weeks 🤞
