I have had tinnitus since May 2022 and developed pulsatile tinnitus last year March.
I had an MRI scan a few weeks ago and have had a letter come through today with another clinic appointment date with a Consultant ENT and Head and Neck Surgeon.
Am I likely to recieve my results at this appointment or will I receive another letter with the results?
The appointment is scheduled for the end of March.
Thank you in advance.

Hi Shantelle, that’s not very helpful for you, I’m so sorry as I’m sure it’s added to your scanxiety… Who ordered the scan? Whoever asked for it willhave the results so I would phone them to say you are anxious to know what it showed. But of course you then need to be prepared for them to tell you over the phone. I had a phone call from my GP who has requested it, only two days after the scan ( this was back in 2020 during pandemic time) and was totally unprepared for the answer as thought I just had tinnitus and he was being over cautious in getting a scan in the first place! If it is an acoustic neuroma there is lots of support out there, treatment if needed, and you will adapt and live your very best life with it. Let me know how you get on x Lin
My GP referred me to ENT but it was the ENT consultant who ordered the MRI.
I contacted ENT but only got through to the secretary of the consultant who was mentioned on the appointment letter. They said that the consultant who was mentioned on the letter was a different consultant to who I saw at my first appointment. She then said that she would email the first consultant to see if they could give me any update but that it was unlikely.
I contacted my GP before about the results but they said the same as you, it depends who requested it.
I will update this post if I find out anything else.
I’ve just had an MRI like you waiting for results if you’ve been given an appointment I think I would phone and ask for the results if you want to know them before xxx good luck xx
Sometimes you can see your results in your notes online but it depends on your practice. Once I tried to read them and they made me wait until the apt with the consultant. Still watch and wait. You can but try. Good luck.
If my experience is anything to go by you'll get your results at your next appointment. I get pulsating tinnitus too it's not very nice is it. When you go back in March they should refer you for an MRI scan which will show whether or not you have an AN which is a rare condition and slow growing mine hasn't grown much since I had diagnosis but I have unilateral hearing loss and have recently started to feel unsteady and dizzy. Best of luck
