Tinnitus noise!

I've managed everything in life! But "tinnitus" i can't get over! I go to the QE in Birmingham, luckily I badgered for a MRI scan, (has I had missed a few ) turned out it had grown to a point Drs needed to intervene, so I had 40 min or so of radio therapy (ciber knife) i don't know how I managed to get through different stages other than wife & children! ! Luckily it's worked, shrinking the tumour, (Mine can't be operated on due to its position) My main problem is the Tinnitus, I can cope with the deafness, balance problems, although going in the scanner so many times has left me afraid of confined places! That's why I missed some scans! Some times I think why me? & what happens when I get older? I just turned 60, thank you to all staff, & to my wife i owe you every thing! Thank you Jan!

Eglington:

I have had loud, varying tinnitus for the past 18 years. Instead of fighting it (yeah right); I just learned to live with it.

Your tinnitus will vary in type (hiss, gurgle, crickets, clicks, etc.) in duration, and in loudness for various reasons, but usually calms down to the usual never-ending hiss.

The loudness & type of tinnitus can be affected by food, exercise, alcohol, drugs, etc., and the only way to live with it is to realize that it will NEVER go away, so stop thinking that it might, it won't.

You just have to realize that you have no control over it and that you never will, because it is a feedback loop in the temporal area of your brain. Enough said.

Hi Eglington

I do have difficulties with the scanner , so far have only had one but nearly didn't manage it . the staff were very nice but were just about to give up on me when I did it . Sorry to hear you are struggling with the tinnitus, I have read that it can help to have background noise like music playing . Mine has increased but it's hard to gage the scale because it is such a personal thing, I am lucky mine isn't continuous, is anyone's I really don't know ?

You are lucky to have a loving family

I wish I could ignore the noise, the only break from it luckily is when I sleep, it's not so simple as ignore it! Thank you to Redday64 though, mine is continuous, doesn't matter how loud other sound is it still there,

How long have you had tinnitus? I’ve had it now (along with deafness) since early 2004 (when I was 30 yo) and it took me about five years to get used to it. You will get used to it. I’ve always been grateful I only have it in one ear.
