You know you're addicted when....

Just thought I'd write a pre new start to the diet/healthy eating (yes I intend to start again on Monday) blog. The last fortnight has been a nightmare. I have found I cannot resist chocolate. I simply refused to allow my partner to give away the Easter gifts and as a result have spent a fortnight randomly sneaking into a cupboard where I had hidden these treats from myself. Why I've felt the need to sneak is beyond me as my partner wouldn't mind if I chose to eat the treats. Perhaps it's the embarrassment of having that compulsion to finish the egg no matter the size. Thank goodness there was nothing overly large although around 1000cals for one is large enough. My addiction became most apparent today when I almost cracked an Easter bunny over a mirror (in case your wondering it was to save the bed sheets). All I could think was that I seem like a crack addict getting a fix!

Well the chocolates gone and I'm promising myself to make a good start tomorrow. I won't however go cold turkey, I intend to get my sweet fix from options hot choc.

My aims are:

Short term: Lose 1.5-2lbs per week. Gym 3x per week, start using kettle bell (recently purchased and its too small to hang clothes on and too ugly to be an ornament) 3x per week.

Medium term: lose 10-12lbs in next 5weeks (this will take me to my pre pregnancy weight)

Long term: be fit and healthy to show my little daughter a good example for an early stage.

I'm also going to aim to browse this site daily found that when I did I was doing much better with the weight loss. This may mean I blog more regularly- feel free to ignore or comment as you choose I'll just be getting stuff off my chest.

Happy healthy eating!

When you walk to the 24/7 hour tesco at Falkirk Redding at 2 AM (yes I have done this) to pick up a 220 gram bag of chilli heatwave doritos and a jar of hot salsa dip...mm...doritos...

That was when my addiction to doritos was at it's worst, I've been clean and system free of them for 2 months now and while I did get big cravings for the first week, after that initial 7 days, my cravings fell by about 90%!

Stay Strong!!!

I have this very same addiction, so instead of buying the large bag I opted for the multi packs, if these don't hit the spot then its ready salted walkers. How do you get off these? I think when I gave up smoking a few years ago I replaced the cigarettes with the crisps. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Hi folks,

There is some stuff about food cravings on the NHS live well lose weight pages.

Basically, I'd suggest that you try to wean yourself off of these, rather than go 'cold turkey' on it.

Two basic strategies: 1) Don't buy it and, therefore, don't have it in the house (or office desk drawer or wherever) and 2) Don't ban them from your eating repertoire as such, just eat a whole lot less of them and eat them one whole lot less often.

On the chocolate thing - you could try upping your vitamin B intake as in fact it is a good source of B vitamins and you're body may be extra craving the chocolate to get at the B vitamins. (One good source is the Marmite/Vegemite sort of stuff - which you either love or hate).

Another approach to managing the chocolate thing is to eat chocolate differently. Try buying a small bar and grating a little of it onto fresh fruit (raspberries, strawberries, blackcurrants, blueberries, bananas or whatever) which have been covered with fat-free yoghurt. Cover the rest of the bar in foil and stick it in the fridge - it'll probably be the longest lasting bar of chocolate you've ever had!

Remember one of the reasons you eat chocolate, or Dorito's or whatever, is just because you eat those things. If you stop eating them, your tastes will change.

Even with something as addictive as smoking, in the end you really do stop 'fancying a ciggie'.

I'll admit I used to wolf down the Twix's, KitKats and the like with a cuppa - from my 'stock' in my office desk drawer - but nowadays because I've stopped doing that, I've completely lost my taste for them and the thought of eating something like that with a cuppa is actually no longer very appealling. I'd rather have something more savoury.

Good luck with your weight loss journeys.
