Hi misshooz,

You might like to read this before setting off on any 'diet' as such.

nhs.uk/Livewell/loseweight/...

Many diets look 'promising' - but that does not mean they are necessarily either helpful or healthy.

You might also like to look at the free 12 week plan - you'll see the link on the right of the same page.

Even if you don't follow that plan, you can use it as the basis of any plan you formulate for yourself.

There's lots more good and free advice on the NHS Choices live well lose weight pages and also on these blogs.

Good luck.

Could you explain the British Diet please?

Followed the first link on google but surprise, surprise, it wants my hard earned cash before it will tell me anything.

No other information on facebook or twitter either.

Yeah I had a sneak peek. Basically you have 5 meals a day. meal 1, 3 and 5 are breakfast lunch and dinner. Meal 2 and 4 are supplemental and u have either 20g of nuts and seeds and the other is two pieces of fruit. Drink 2litres of chilled or iced water a day and the seeds are supposed to boost fibre and give the colon a good cleanse. There are lists of red, amber and green foods. When you are losing weight it's mainly green with occasional amber. 6 days of the week have the 5 meals as one day eat 3. This is supposed to boost metabolism. It's common sense really and not a crazy diet. I inputted a typical days food intake into my fitness pal and it worked out around 1400-1500 cals a day so it's not a dangerous diet from what I can see and I can't see any disadvantages.

Hi folks,

In my view it has nothing particular within it to recommend it.

As for the "Is £10 Worth Paying to Lose Weight" nonsense - I haven't spent a penny losing nearly 13 Kgs in nine weeks and don't really see why anyone else necessarily should either.

O.K. some folk like weight-loss clubs - and if that works for you then great.

But I haven't given any money to WeightWatchers (well not directly, I have bought some weightwatchers tinned foods from Tesco's), Slimmers World or anyone else.

In fact, in their terminology, why pay good money to lose your 'lumpy bits'?

There's also very little up front information and you might, in effect, only be buying a diet sheet from them. You can get loads of information, support, tips, a 12 week plan, etc, etc off the NHs for zilch!

I mean if you want a diet plan, then use the NHSChoices one and adapt it to your situation - I did.

Sorry, just don't see the point of it.

Personally, it suits me to go to Weight Watchers. I get the discipline to keep on with this and good ideas at the meetings. I know it seems crazy to pay for this support but if it works, it's worth it!

dieting can be lonely and i think slimming clubs are great for motivation, were doing 12 week nhs plan as a weigh in at work and theres about 50 of us doing it and the other 1300 odd staff all know im one of the ones doing it so every day ive got umpteen people asking how im doing and what am i eating today and theyre seeing my fb photos so i cant be sneaky and cheat ive got too many eyes watching me which is a good thing really lol

It's very easy to be judgemental about something you have never used but for a lot of people slimming clubs can be a source of help, ideas and friendship as well as motivating you when you hit a low point. Everyone is different, have different eating patterns, food preferences and 'comfort' foods but the thing I find best with this site is that most people admit to being human, not knowing everything and offering help and support :-) remember even a message of not sticking to good intentions can help others realise they aren't alone and in-spite of slip ups we can succeed.
