I am trying to find out any information on losing fat while walking. I have been walking almost every day for the past 3 weeks about 1 to 4 miles at a time. I look at websites for information but they all give some many different answers. I am trying to find out how many calories will I burn if I continue to walk 4 miles a day? For any other information I am 36o pounds and walking really is not so easy for me but I do it. I have been trying to loose weight off and on for about 15 years. Thank You.

Hello and welcome to this friendly and supportive forum. The best way to lose weight is by being careful what you eat although walking will definitely help. You might like to use the Active 10 App to build up your walking. Using a fitness tracker or app like My Fitness Pal where you log your food and your exercise will tell you how many calories you are burning and give you a recommended calorie allowance for your weight and height.
We have a Fitness is Fun club which you might like to join where you can chat to others about exercise. All the information you need can be found in pinned posts:

Do have a good look around and read all the links. It can tricky to find your way around to start with.. You might like to start by posting your start weight on the Weigh In. The daily diary is a great place for meal ideas.

Hi BorisValejo86 and welcome, may I suggest that you need to find a plan which suits you, many of our members have started their weight loss journey by using the NHS 12 week plan. Start by running your stats through the NHS site to obain your BMI and from their your calorie allowance, you'll be surprised that you're allowed more calories than you imagine.

If you have a step counting app you can sync it with myfitnesspal app and it will calculate calories burned from exercise. I'm not sure how much weight you will lose though through walking alone. I think you have to combine it with taking control of your food intake. This is a really nice forum and you will get lots of genuine encouragement to keep going. So I use myfitnesspal for keeping track of calories and exercise but much prefer this forum for helpful advice and encouragement. Good luck with your decision to get rid of that extra fat.
Hi there, it depends how quickly you walk but, 4mph for 1hr on flat ground would burn 334 calories. If you walk slightly faster than that then you burn extra calories, if less than that you would burn less. Hope that helps
I admire you determination but if the weight isn't shifting then take a look at what you are eating . Ignore what you are burning doing any exercise and if you are following calories then stick to what you are eating and those calories . I did calories - 3 meals a day , no snacks and nothing after 7pm . Quite strict at first but allowed me a realistic plan without feeling empty and I really looked forward to my meals . Example - Porridge made with water , full fat Greek yogurt and fruit of choice with a coffee .
Lunch - large fish inc canned tuna in brine , cottage cheese , lean white meat and a crazy large salad . Tea - grilled meat , fish , loads of veg occasional small portion of brown rice or brown pasta . Lots of flavouring from herbs , spices , tinned tomatoes . Plenty of water and fruit tea .
I lost 18kg in 9 months with a few glitches , days at events and weekends where I was more relaxed but if you can aim for doing something like this Mon - Fri - about 1450 cals then I would be amazed combined with your walking and watching portion sizes that the weight won't start dropping off . I am 62 so not someone with crazy mets either.
