Smaller targets would be useful as well as changes in food choices that could remain permanently. I can tell you what helped me, others can tell you what helped them and hopefully you will be able to find something that suits you. I simply started by recording what I eat and weighing myself every week. Then started limiting daily intake of calories, then started to watch where the calories come from, making slow changes in my food choices. Later on I also introduced time restricted eating. Feel free to ask any questions and all the very best in finding what works for you!

What type of foods? What do you mean by time restricted eating?

I count calories, so I haven’t completely eliminated any food, as long as it fits into my daily allowance. I found it detrimental in the past to tell myself ‘I can’t eat that’. So occasionally I would eat anything I fancy in limited amounts. But on a regular day I would avoid anything with white flour, white sugar, starchy vegetables. Things I eat often would be: vegetables, pulses, fish, full fat dairy products, berries, and seeds. Somewhat less often: meat, eggs, fruits, nuts and whole meal bread.

Time restricted eating is when you limit the time during the day to a certain window and you don’t eat any at other time. I never liked breakfast so I decided to go for 8 hour eating window between 12 and 8 pm. It also called 16:8 protocol of intermittent fasting. Basically it means I eat nothing in the morning before 12 o’clock and nothing after 8 o’clock in the evening - I only drink water, as well as coffee and tea without any milk or sugar in them.

Hope this answers your questions.

Hi Nubian, you need to find what works for you and stops you feeling hungry and wanting to snack. A food regime that you can imagine following for the rest of your life.

I've lost 35kg so far and have around another 30kg to go. Firstly i stopped snacking then i started changing what i ate and calorie counting. The next step i took was reducing carbs then just recently swapping low fat or fat free for healthy fats. I declared myself a true Low carb healthy fat (LCHF) follower yesterday 😊.

Dont set a big goal at the start. Yes have it at the back of your mind but work to smaller ones. 5kg = a bag of potatoes, 15kg is a sack of dog food etc. I also translate my losses to tins of baked beans (i hate baked beans so its good to lose them lol). I'm currently on 88 tins 😂😂.

Research and watch utube videos on dieting and healthy eating. I took little bits from a few to start me off on my journey.

Any questions, ask away. Good luck xx
