I have suffered with ill heath for the last 15 years, my weight was steady but then starting going up yet I am eating less so don't understand why? I have recently been diagnosed with heart failure so am on Furosemide 40mg per day but still feel as though I am still retaining water? However, in the last two weeks since taking Furosemide I have lost 21 pounds - yippee!

Heart Failure and diet
Hello and welcome MrsPotter
First of all, I’m delighted the medication is doing it’s job, I hope you are feeling better as well? Heart Failure is very worrying, I do hope you are receiving good medical care and attention. We are just a peer to peer support group for weight loss and cannot offer professional medical advice
However, as you have discovered, there’s a big difference between Weight Loss and Fat Loss. Trust me, if you are a eating properly you will be losing fat, it just may (or may not) show on the scales. Fluid retention, for whatever reason can add many pounds at the scales 😩
You haven’t said what you are eating, so if you need help and advice with diet then please join our Daily Diary so our members can support and advise you. Many of us are finding a low carbohydrate plan very helpful, see here for why healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh...
If you haven’t already then please read the Welcome Message in Pinned Posts here healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh... Please read it carefully so you can find all the information you need to find your way around the forum.
Best wishes
Indigo 😊
Well done 👍
Hello, I take furosemide 40mg too . I am glad you have lost all that fluid,it will make your life easier. I still get a bit of swelling in my ankles but no where near the way it used to be. Sadly if like me the weight (fat) needs to come down that is harder to do - no pills for that - Best of luck and stay fit and well.
Ha ha, I know exactly what you mean hughy, I am getting rid of fluid but fat is so much harder! Thank you for your reply it is reassuring to know we are not alone, I must admit when they first gave me the diagnosis, I was scared, both my parents passed away age 66, I am only 1 year and a few months away from that, my sister sadly passed away aged 54 so longevity does not seem to be in my family but I am determined to do what I can to stop the 'ageing' process and be as healthy as I can be. xx
I'm 64 and have the same family background. Just do the best you can in life and don't worry over it - life is too short and worry makes it shorter ! And don't feel guilty about anything especially the odd treat from time to time. I work in the NHS and have too much knowledge but still don't worry about it !
Hi and welcome, hughby
