Why can’t I lose weight

I am doing 5:2 diet, couch to 5k, walking most days for around one hour and I have been doing this for at least the last 9 weeks but have not lost any weight. Any thoughts?

Hi gillyft, and welcome! Our lovely TeamAdmin will be along to help you get the most out of the site.

Without knowing a little more about what you are eating, it's hard to help you pinpoint what's going wrong for you.

If you would like to pop along to today's Daily Diary and set out what you are eating today, or what you plan to eat tomorrow, you might get a few thoughts. Be sure to say whether it's a "5" or a "2" day and what you are aiming for (whether calories or something else).

I'll tag you from there so you can find it. Alternatively, feel free to write it here, if you would prefer, as the DD is only open for around 24 hours before it closes and we move on to the next one (usually in the evening UK time).

Do you know your body mass index and the weight you are aiming for? If not, have a look at the NHS BMI calculator - nhs.uk/live-well/healthy-we...

Hello and welcome to the Weigh Loss Forum gillyft

I’m sorry you are struggling to lose weight, are you also taking measurements or using other measures of improved health? Energy levels, dress size, general strength and fitness etc? Remember scale weight is just one way of measuring, you could be losing internal visceral fat and not be aware of it. I suggest you join one of our Group Weigh-in‘S and the meal planning post called Daily Diary and share a few more details and see if anyon has any suggestions. To find these and your way around the forum please read the Welcome Message in Pinned Posts here healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh... Please read it carefully so you can find all the information you need.

As a peer to peer support group we rely totally upon mutual encouragement. Nothing beats joining in, reading posts and replying to others.

If you haven't already taken it, here's a tour of the forum

Best wishes

Indigo 😊

As IndigoBlue61 says are you measuring, not just the usual places, try wrists, knees, neck. Or do you have an item of clothing you haven’t worn in a while because it was a bit tight? Try it on, you might be surprised. It is possible to lose cms/ins without the scales going down, odd but true.

C25K is brilliant but it’s the long slow runs after graduation that make the difference to fat burning. The early runs don’t use that much energy (even though it feels like you might die at times, or was that just me).

Are you keeping your fluid intake up? That is quite a factor in 5:2, or used to be.

Good luck. I’m sure that with all the information you’ve been given you’ll soon be on a losing streak 😀

I would suggest you to schedule a health scan with a GP, if you haven't done this already.

Also, take a look at LCHF diet. I've never tried 5:2 but reading about it I can't see myself losing weight doing calorie counting for only 2 days a week (emotional eater here).
