Almonds: Are they really good for... - Weight Loss Support
Almonds
Pretty high in calories. Marzipan is my biggest threat! I find putting a small number in a pot securing the bag and only eating those in the pot works for me. I can eat a bag of nuts of almost any size!
I would say NO. All nuts are highly nutritious so it is worth having them in small amounts but maybe just once a week, and handful as a snack with some fruit. I did a quick google and according to a very long article on the NHS website, the idea they are good for slimming is a total myth spread by tabloids and a not very in depth 'study' by the Almond Board of California! Once a story gets out there and starts spreading misinformation happens!
I though that California claimed to have the secret to longevity
FFS, stop this.
California has a population of 40 million. Most of them are probably eating badly.
Plan a diet, then follow it. Base it on what your doctor recommends or from a reliable website (eg diet doctor) or other source you can trust. We can help if you are struggling.
Stop just posting random things that claim to be miracle cures. They aren't. You need to focus to fix your problems.
The NHS is much better at debunking studies that don't promote their orthodoxy, but don't examine the ones that drive their "eat less, move more, low fat" philosophy.
Yeah, a positive report by an almond growing group is probably nonsense, but I do not trust the NHS on this subject, until they explain the obesity epidemic that started when they started recommending a low fat diet.
This is it? Lgi is the way forward
I am learning a lot! I had no idea this was an issue. Things have changed a lot since I was last here!
I find a small amount of almonds is a healthy snack and I can still loose weight. Almonds are very nutritious.
I am a binge eater, on LCHF so bought walnuts, a big bag had gone over 2 days, so then bought almonds, tried to just snack on a handful, but found myself continually dipping into the bag, so haven’t bought anymore. I still feel like I can’t trust myself to not eat all of them. Also have been a bit like that with cheese.
You sound like many of us Pink4eva . . . Having a limited amount of food ‘available’ (whatever plan you follow we all need to eat less overall) what works for me is No Eating Between Meals Fullstop . . . Snacking really isn’t necessary and once is start I struggle to stop.
It can take time to create the good habits (anything from a few days to a few weeks) but it’s well worth it.

The forum is set up for sharing information and support so, wherever you go, please chat, ask questions and encourage others: that way, we share the support around. You’ll meet some wonderful people along the way who will be happy to share their successes and struggles😊
Definitely a better snack for nutrition and healthy fats. I like to sqidge a nut into slices of banana. Still need to keep an eye on your portion sizes tho.
But why do you feel the need for a ‘snack’ ? If you’re eating enough at mealtimes snacks shouldn’t be necessary 😕
If you want to have a child, you need to stop this hit&run attitude to diet. Stop posting things like this, sort your diet out and focus on your metabolic health.
I am sure I have shared this before
Interesting, I believe peanuts and probably many others are also low on the glycemic index. The trouble with nuts is they are so moreish! I need to get my head round this whole blood sugar business!
Me too😊
Your right. There is conflicting schools of thought.
I changed batteries I calculated I lost 1.1 pound since march.
