Shifting the last bit!

How does everyone go about shifting the last 6lb? My goal weight is 9 stone. I have managed to lose a stone so far, but I’m really struggling with the last stubborn bits (mainly tummy area) I would say my diet is mostly healthy and I am active! Any suggestions?

Hi, gkirk12345 , welcome.

You could re-assess your target goal - the WHO/NHS BMI system is not ideal for everyone.

If you "slim smart" weight loss is not so hard! It is not all about motivation and masochism.

Some of us here find that what works, especially for weight-loss plateaux, is a combination of The Low Carbohydrate, High-Fat (LCHF) diet (see the forum here on Health Unlocked) and Not Snacking All Day AKA Intermittent Fasting (IF). See:

When loss gets stubborn I'd suggest focusing on 1 lb at a time and being patient with yourself. You have done well to achieve a stone loss, you will shed more but sometimes it takes its time. Watch out for the usual culprits, processed food, sugar, check your carb intake, avoid snacking(hard over Christmas!)get some healthy snax in and other non food distractions and keep water intake up. Sometimes we eat when a glass of water would be enough. You'll get there but don't force the pace or get knotted up about this is my advice. All best 🤗

Thank you! It’s tough over Christmas, I am just trying to ensure I don’t gain anything over Christmas and focus my attention in the New Year. I completely agree about water intake and I can admit that I need to drink more. Thank you for your advice 🙂

There is three methods that spring to my mind to try! Well actually four lol.

1st: keep going. Just carry on as you have been. Sometimes weight loss can get stuck but if you persevere it will start moving again. This is perhaps the hardest method for me as if I got stuck I would lose motivation and quit! But if you can persevere I know it does start shifting again eventually for others!

2nd: Have a binge day! I know it sounds counterproductive but it works. Sometimes the body adapts to lower calorie intake and slows down. Giving it a high calorie day can shock it into gear again! Its worked for me and I know it has worked for others!

3rd: change things up! Similar to method 2 but without increasing calories. Its another way of shocking the body out of complacency. It can get used to doing the same exercises or eating the same foods. So if you don't usually swim .. Go for a swim! Or ride or something different from your usual activity. And change your meals around so you eat the heavier meal earlier or later. Just different.

4th.. I'm a fan of the 5:2 diet. Although I prefer to eat a nice daily amount of calories now instead I have the 5:2 to thank for the start of my journey and I consider it a good emergency tool for cutting calories. If you search up about it you will quickly understand the method. It again changes how your body is reacting and gets it burning calories more efficiently again! Plus I find it helps remind me what 'true hunger' feels like so makes you less likely to make bad food choices on your non 5:2 days too.

I hope some of these suggestions help!
