For me it was walking, but I also do a short dance routine in my sitting room, plus yoga, and I have an exercise bike. I confess to hating the gym . . . Sorry ☹️ Remember for weight loss it’s far more important to watch what you eat

Thanks, what’s your opinion on cheat days?

You’re only cheating yourself I’m afraid. However, I do eat less on weekdays so I can have a few indulgences at weekends. 😊

Okay, I will look into a few healthier alternatives to satisfy my sweet tooth on occasions and thanks

I also hate the gym and do yoga, walking and exercise bike at home I also do Shaun t hip hop abs at home.

These are all things that have definitely helped me. I agree you are only cheating yourself and if you break the sweet tooth habit you don’t crave sugar. But I am about to go on holiday so I will try to eat healthy the majority of the time but I will indulge and i will be right back to it when home. Melon and other fruits are great this time of year for that bit of sweetness 😀

Options hot chocolate has various flavours & at only 40cals it satisfies my sweet cravings & is a nice treat in the evening 😋

Agree with IndigoBlue--no more "cheat days". If it's a lifestyle not a diet, there's nothing to cheat on anymore. I simply don't eat what I don't think is good for me, anymore. The funny thing is, the longer I go without it, the less I miss it...so there's that!

But I do eat artificial sweetener, so I guess you could call that a cheat. I bake and make myself desserts when I want with splenda/stevia/allulose etc. And since I don't limit fat those desserts are full of butter and cream. That's my tradeoff. It works for me.

Exercise: I am unconvinced it helps with weight loss! Doesn't it just make you hungry? But I think it's good for you anyway. I take classes and lift weights.

As IB61 says, I don't think working out is what has helped me so far, at least not directly with the weight loss. After 3 months of changing my eating habits, I started doing some weight workouts. That helped me feel better, but I don't think it contributed much to the weight. I did it at home, nothing fancy. One year after starting my lifestyle change (more or less 9 weeks ago) I started c25k. Again, it hasn't helped with the weight, but I feel much better now that I can run for 30 minutes. Although it has not helped directly, I think the exercise is helping me indirectly, I feel more confident now that I know I can climb 3 floors without running out of breath, or I can run for the bus... Also, it helps because I want to improve my pace and endurance so I'm being much more careful about what I eat :)

Another aspect of exercise is it makes you realise how hard it is to actually burn off the calories, which makes me think twice about eating them!! 😊

Cycling is good aerobic, fat burning exercise... and a means of transport.

I think that when I was cycling 15,000 miles a year, weight-loss was 90% about how much exercise I did!

Walking is good exercise, but the scenery changes more quickly if you cycle.

If you want to exercise for fat-loss, duration is more important than intensity.

Running is OK for a teenager - but can cause joint damage in adults... many of the older adults I cycled with had changed from running to cycling after joint damage.

Are there places where you would feel happy walking or cycling?

My son commutes right across London on a bike most days.

In the mornings I do 2 different work outs on YouTube, then I do 20 mins or 10 mins depending on what time I have on my spinning bike I follow a you tube intermitant exersize also I dont eat any food till 12.30 -1pm I've lost a stone 14lbs in 3 months. I know it's taken me a good while but we have a very social life style & I'm entertaining at least once a week sometimes more if we have staying guests.

Swimming. It's easy on the joints and muscles. And highly addictive. 😊

Hello, Teachertailor, and welcome to the forum :) Thank you for being supportive, that's what makes the forum :)

You will have had a welcome message that included links to help you find your way around. If you're struggling with anything, just shout out. I particularly recommend joining a weigh-in on the day of your choice: the team support is great. Also the Daily Diary is a great help with meal planning and pinching ideas: it's very interactive and you'll soon get to know people.

Wishing you every success and I hope we see you around :)

I love swimming and cycling at the gym, but this is more for me to get fit and to work on strengthening my knees. Ho early during my 12 week programme I barely went to gym and still lost a lot. For me it would be more to get fit and tone up. Also remember if you do start exercising a lot then you build muscle, which is great, but you will see an increase in the scale which might make you think you are picking up weight.

The best exercise is the one you do. When I have had lots of time at different times, i’ve walked for 2-3 hours a day in hilly ground & the pounds fell off without changing my diet much. But walking 2-3 hours a day is not that practical for most people...

Couch to 5k has definitely helped me. Now in my mid 40’s, I have never been keen on exercising (i wouldn’t even run for the bus) but this free app has been a life changer for me. It encourages you over 9 weeks to run at your pace, up to 30 mins for 3 times a week. The forum attached to this app is extremely supportive. I agree with others here, that it is what you put in your mouth (if you bite it write it) that changes your weight loss, but when the scales start to slow down for me, even when I’m eating the correct calorie allowance, the jogging helps to move them on.

Hello Duffy4. Lovely to see you here offering great support and advice.

Just wondering if you are here for weight loss or visiting as a supporter. Both are fine - we just like to make sure you receive a proper welcome.

Depends whether the journey you’re on has the objective of losing weight, building muscle, or just getting fitter. My objective was to lose weight and it turned out that the best fat burning exercise for me was to switch from a low fat diet and start frying bacon. LCHF!
