A little advice.......

Morning all - I'm hoping for some advice here. I'm almost 43, 5ft 6' and weigh just over 13 stone. I would love to loose around 2-2.5 stone. For the last 3 weeks, I've been getting up early (sometimes 5.30am!!) to fit a very brisk 30 minute walk in before work, and being super honest about logging calories on MFP. They have set my target at 1360. However, I weighed myself today and I have gained 3lbs!!

I do feel so much better from eating healthily and exercising, so I'm trying not to be too downbeat about the scales, but can anyone offer words of wisdom on how I can get the scales to shift? I'm going on holidays in mid-July and would really have liked about 7-10lbs off by then.

Thanks in advance x

Hello and welcome to the Weight Loss Forum littledolly56

First of all our weight varies from day to day, so please dont be alarmed. You may well be losing fat but it’s not reflected on the scales, you can feel a difference which is great 😊

Secondly, it’s important have enough to eat. MFP is great, but can set your calories very low, as it’s designed to allow you to “earn” back exercise calories. We advise checking your own personal calorie target using the BMI checker, it’s often higher than you think. (We always advise starting towards the top of the range, being hungry is the biggest cause of weight loss failure.)

Thirdly what you eat matters, especially as we get older. Please read this for an explanation of why hormonal changes affect our weight loss healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh...

We have found that active participation is key to success, especially the Group Weigh In and Daily Diary. Please see today’s Chat Thread with a list of all the things happening around here healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh...

If you haven’t already then please read the Welcome post here healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh... please read it carefully and just ask if you have any questions.

I notice that you have left your post unlocked. We always advise that you select “only my community” when you write a post. Please read our security post here healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh...

Best wishes in your weight loss journey

Indigo 😊

Don't despair, this is a great site. Stay positive and focus. Keep a diary, break down aims to smaller chunks. Don't think that because ''I'' have exercised that I deserve a treat. Keep at it.

I'd say you're not eating enough and in danger of slowing your metabolism.

I started at the same weight as you but 2inches shorter, 20+years older and much less active yet I lost weight steadily eating 2-300 more cals than you're having.

Mfp is great for counting but I suggest you get your calorie range from the NHS BMI Calculator and aim for the middle or upper half of that range. You can edit Mfp with your new calorie target

Hi all. Thanks for all the comments and advice. I’ve checked the NHS site again so going to give 1600 calories a go for a few weeks and see how I get on.
