Keeping busy!

Hello lovely people, I'm in need of your help..

Most of the time, if I over eat, it's out of boredom. I need ideas to keep me busy and take my mind off wanting to eat.

I've found knitting to be a great help, but with Spring just around the corner, I'm hesitant to keep making hats and scarfs as they won't be used!

What do people do to keep their hands busy?

All ideas will be appreciated!

:)

Morning jwalk I read, go to my classes, dance and volunteer with Streetskitchen. I find that having a focus outside helps me. Good luck.

If you look to the right of your screen, JWalk27, there are 10 posts with a similar theme, which may help and if you type Busy Bee challenge into the search box, you'll find even more :)

Hi hun, what about knitting dementia mitts for local homes and hospitals, baby clothes for local special care baby unit or simple teddies for children's A&E. . The feelgood factor of doing for the community would be an extra boost.

You can knit me a hat maybe? I find if I get bored I tend to drink alcohol which is a double whammy. I find listening to music helps me. The weather is a bit cold for many of my hobbies that are outside or in the garage so I have a similar problem. Reading or audio books sometimes help me. I work and I find keeping busy at work really helps me during the day. What about exercise, walking is good as it can consume a lot of time and you get to see some nice scenery depending where you live or if you are prepared to travel a bit. I find the evenings the worst, TV can be very boring.

I love knitting too, you get some beautiful cotton which does knit into some lovely summer tops. My sister bought a dolls house kit a couple of years ago and it has taken hours of work so far, and a long way to go!! It took ages to assemble it, and do all the external work like railings and window shutters, then there was all the wiring. Now she gas started on the rooms, wallpaper and flooring. She has only done one room so far but it looks great and she has crotched a rug for the floor and made beautiful curtains , it will take a long time, but it is an Edwardian doll's house and it is going to look amazing, it will become a family heirloom I am sure. It certainly has kept her hands busy. Good luck to you whatever you choose.

Hi JWalk27 you say you enjoy knitting so do I. It was suggested to be that it would help to relax me and help with the times I get depressed. My daughter saw an appeal I think on Facebook in our area for knitters to make hats for the local special care baby unit. They get through so many hats and of course haven’t got the facilities to wash them . Our baby unit came up with the idea to make them using three traffic light colours, so the really young or poorly babies have red hats, then progress to orange colour as they get better and green as they are almost ready to go home. They were happy for me to provide my own wool but they provided two different patterns to work from, very easy. Perhaps you could get in touch with your local special care baby unit. Also possibly the Salvation Army May need hats, gloves and scarves for homeless people to wear or they may know of an organisation which would be able to make use of them. So your skills can still be of use and will stop you turning to food when you get bored or fed up. I guess like he you can knit and watch Tv at the same time. Good luck

Many members have similar problems - so you can spend time here supporting them.

You need motivation, determination, discipline... and something else to do.

Do not snack.

Do not eat in your sitting room.

Do not go into the kitchen after some set time.

Try walking a mile or two every time you are tempted.

Hi Jwalk,

I have a variety of things that I do at night to ward off the boredom munchies.

Knitting which has been mentioned, colouring in some adult books are really cool, jigsaw puzzles, reading, coming on here, and finally I paint my nails which has the added bonus of stopping me from reaching for the snacks completely!

Good luck! 😀

Our local church has a knit and natter group that knits for a neonatal unit. It isn't much good for dieters though since it always involves coffee and cake!!!! 😂😂😂
