Losing weight

So I joined the gym about two weeks ago and have been aiming to go atleast 4 times a week which I’ve managed perfectly fine as it’s open 24 hours and can go whenever I’ve got spare time. I’m not expecting results straight away but seem to be struggling a little bit with mixing things up a bit as worried I might lose interest if I keep going on the same machines and do the same thing. Just wondered if anyone had any good exercises for weight loss and fat burn other than just using machines.

What sort of exercise do you enjoy? Best to find something - swimming, running, walking that you enjoy and then you are more likely to continue with it. :-)

Hello alicej and welcome to the weight loss forum.

I'd agree with Ali_B62 , find activity you enjoy as you're more likely to stick with it.

When it come to weight loss, though, that is far more to do with what you eat - have you hear the phrase, "you can't out run a bad diet"? - so I suggest you focus more on that. The NHS 12 week plan is a good start.

I feel your pain!

I get bored very easily and I actually don’t enjoy the gym yet - I am a newbie.... I’ve been told to stick it out as the beginning can be tough and people learn to love it 😊

I do the 5 min HITT burn plan - jump on any cardio machine for 5 mins at high intensity and then grab the nearest free cardio machine and do it all over again.... I do this for 30-35 mins (if I’m on a roll 45 mins) but I love the buzz and the short bursts don’t make me feel like a lab rat on a running wheel!

Then I follow with 4-5 weight machines - 3 sets of 15 at a weight that is quite heavy but the last few reps have to feel like you can’t go on any longer so it shows that you are using the right amount of weight!

I hope this helps?

4 times a week is amazing!

I went gym once this week - a 90 min walk yesterday and I need to squeeze in another session this weekend x

I’m not massively keen on the gym but I love exercise classes. High energy, social and always different! Do you have access to any via your membership?
