How to recover

Hi all,

I had a surprise visit yesterday from a friend I don’t see very often and indulged too much on both wine and food.

I just wondered what you found best after that, do you just write the day off and carry on with the plan as normal the next day or do you try and have a much stricter day the day after to make up for it somehow?

Thanks!

Dani

I tend to just get back on track rather than being extra strict but whatever you think would work for you.

I think it's always useful, before you turn the page, to think about how you'd do it differently next time, so you have a plan, but you may just think you wouldn't do anything different as it's not going to be a regular occurrence. I'm sure you enjoyed the meet-up

Personally I just write the day off and start again, I don’t try to be stricter as my body will rebel against me if I did and stop losing weight. So I take it as a no day and begin next day with a clean slate. Sometimes it might help you lose weight as your body does get used to eating ‘x’ amount of cals and a blast every now and again can make it wake up and begin to lose weight again.

I would just go back to normal :)

Trying to be too strict just backfires for me so I just get back to a normal healthy day 😊

I try not to be too strict but if I can I will cut a couple of hundred calories from the next few days to try and balance out. I find cutting 150/200 calories over say 3 days tends to work for me, but it doesn't work for everyone

I'll try and balance it by having a couple of lower calorie days. Doing this doesn't mean i eat less though, i'll just cut carbs - eat veggies and maybe go full veggie or have fish and not meat.

I would tend towards remembering the enjoyment you got from the friendship and the catch up and just put the guilt behind you! Part of this ‘journey’ is being able to enjoy food and all the celebrations it is part of. If you can cut down a little then do so but don’t punish yourself for having a lovely day.

Its normal to do that, especially when meeting up with someone you haven't seen in a while. Like others have already said, draw a line in the sand, realise where you went wrong and try again the next day. If you went to a restaurant, try to get the nutritional info of the dish you had - opt for something healthier next time. If you stayed home and had something like pizza for example, consider how you can have something which "feels" like it is pizza but without the calories - or just make a healthier pizza?

Thank you everybody. I had such a lovely, rare day and it felt really needed mentally so I’m not going to beat myself up. I’ve pretty much gone ahead as normal today but for each meal chosen my more lighter options so there’s a nod to yesterday, but nothing drastic. I think so many of you are right, if I’d been really strict today I probably would have just caved in and ended up not having a great day today

I would nt beat myself up , especially if the time with the friend made us both happy! Losing weight is nt everything in life! Just get back to the weight loss regime the next day with renewed determination !
