How often?

I know it should be weekly but I can’t resist the urge to do a daily jump on?!

What do other people do?

Thanks in advance

Everybody's different Nikib, you have to do what's right for you, bearing in mind that our weight fluctuates from hour to hour, never mind day to day.

I personally used to weigh daily, but only counted a weekly weight.

I tend to weigh myself 1st thing in the morning and last thing at night, but I only record my weight weekly.

So I do see it fluctuating, which is totally normal, but I take Saturday morning as "the" weight.

I weigh myself daily when I’m at home. It keeps me focused even though I know it fluctuates 😊

Out of interest can you give an example of how much it fluctuates? I’m on day 4 and it’s saying 4lb loss?

Many people lose half a stone in their first week - but it is mostly gut-fill and fluid.

Sometimes I think that the only way to lose weight is to defecate, but weight loss is largely hot air - literally, as carbohydrates are turned into carbon-dioxide and water!

I usually do not weigh myself unless I have defecated before breakfast, and I take my minimum weight during the week as my weight for the week... and I keep to my "diet rules" until I have got down to my target weight for the week.

I think a "party" blow-out (weekend) could increase my weight by half a stone, (including fluid retention) but that is not much more than 5% of my weight.

Step away from the Scales! Once a week, and only because I'm using this site. I absolutely refuse to swap one compulsion (a biscuit or handful of raisins or anything to go in the mouth, really, when I'm feeling stressed with work) for another compulsion (micromanaging my daily weight using my scales, which probably aren't all that accurate anyway). Nope. It's just like continually checking email... just in case... although you haven't had an alert (oh, yes, I do that thing). Losing weight is a good thing to do. It's a lifestyle change, not a "diet", and it involves a whole lot more than food and scales. Fill up this wonderful one-time-only life with experiences, would be my suggestion. Weight in? Once a week. Maybe less.

Hi nikib, like you, I step on almost every day, but only record my weight once a week on Saturday 😊 now I am used to it fluctuating, I don't stress if it goes up a little, as a lot depends on what I ate the day before, how much sleep I've had, etc.

If this is your first week & you have a fair amount to lose, you may find you have a big loss, but it will then settle down - I lost 9 lbs in my first week 😳

So, while you have to do what works for you, try not to get hung up on the numbers on the scales 😊

Hope that helps

As long as you can deal with it going up and down even though you are eating within your plan then it doesn't matter. If you can't and will see it as failure then do it weekly or you will eat to compensate for the disappointment maybe?

Hi Nikib12. I never tire of weighing myself !

I have been on here for 8 weeks and I have just recently limited myself to one step onto the scales per day. I know about the fluctuations but that holds no fear.

I only count my weight as the one on Tuesday mornings.....for my Weigh-In, each week.

At first, I stepped onto the scales everytime I visited the bathroom. Cutting that to once a day seems less obsessive !!

Whatever works for you, works for you.👍
