Sweet treats

I am looking for a chocolate biscuit type low cal/low fat (if there is such a thing) for after dinner? I have given up smoking but have become a chocolate/biscuit demon for the first time ever, I used to be a savoury treat fan but now can't seem to resist something sweet in the evening. So far I have tried a little pot of rice pud, yogurt and fruit, and granola.

Any ideas what would help with the craving, or what has worked for you would be gratefully received.

Thanks so much

Sharon

One, or two squares of very dark chocolate should hit the spot, Sharon, without triggering the need for more :)

Chocolate rice cakes aren't too bad - around 60/70 cals. Or you could have a low calorie hot chocolate drink (sachet). Or you could tip a chocolate drink sachet into a low fat yogurt and stir, leave for 5 mins.

I think the very best thing is to try and break free of the chocolate though! There are much healthier sweet treats you could have, eg a date, a sliced apple, etc.

I was going to suggest the same as moreless. If you leave enough calories in your daily allowance you can have the choc of your choice.

I nearly always have a dessert in the evening because I want my meals to be as normal as possible.

I like you're thinking - thank you!

Think this is the secret and vital to sustain what , for most of us is a radical difference to what we ate before and if you can get a pattern of normality into the day then I for one will stick to it . A pudding is a good idea if you can fit it into your plans . We aren't here to be punished .

That’s the danger with sweet things . . . Once we start we can’t stop. But we can re train our brains to accept what is sweet. By stopping most added sugar, and diet soft drinks, my taste buds have adjusted and fruit tastes extra sweet. I do eat some cakes (and dark chocolate) but can manage to have a small amount and feel satisfied 😊

I completely agree with you on the taste of fruit. I don't really taste the tablespoon of honey in my porridge anymore but a ripe pear or banana or grapes are really sweet.

With you there, couldn't stop at one. No willpower of mine would stop me demolishing a packet in under a minute and look around for the next one.

I made a jaffa cake-like pandoro pudding a few weeks back. It's frozen down into double portions (220 cals each). The worst I can do is eat twice that (fingers crossed I don't).

Thanks Shayanburr

I've currently stayed 'good' for just over 3 weeks now and it's paying off. I'm back to the middle of my previous maintenance range and hopefully can push on and lose the 2kgs I need to get to the middle of my new maintenance range.

All the best to you!

What brilliant news so pleased for you! For me after a very slow start 5 weeks in and lost 4lb which has given me a bit of a lift to be honest☺

Nothing wrong with that. That's a pretty good loss (pick up 2 bags of sugar in your hands :O ). You definitely should feel lifted.

Keep it up.

Thanks Tiggerr - I'll try☺

Hi Shaunaburr, you could try a fruit tea? I like either the peach and rosemary one from Waitrose or - I am waiting for my delivery of these - the gingerbread chai from bluebird teas in Brighton. We tasted these at my last yoga class and it was delish !!
