Hi and welcome to this wonderful forum, here’s what’s worked for me so far:
1. Find out your personal calorie allowance using the NHS BMI calculator nhs.uk/Tools/Pages/Healthyw... (your personal calorie range is displayed on the same page as your BMI score. Start at the top end of this range.
2. Log the calories for everything you eat and drink (write it down or use a free app like MyFitnessPal)
3. Cut down on processed foods, refined carbs (swap to whole grain and weigh portions) and sugar
4. Don’t bother with anything low fat it’s usually full of sugar or doesn’t really fill you up. So have full fat Greek yoghurt, full fat milk, olive oil, avocados etc
5. Meal plan and check out the daily diary on here for yummy and delicious ideas
6. Move more, you don’t need to necessarily exercise to lose weight but whenever your bored try doing something rather than reaching for something to eat.
7. Join a weigh in group on here and just generally stay on this forum, read, like, post or reply to others whenever you feel like you need some support, it really does help 😊👍🍀
Welcome.you have come to the right place for help and support.i suggest you try the nhs 12 week plan.its what i started on and best decision ive made. I started off with this plan and just walking to begin with. It do get easier.but think of the small picture not that you got 6 stone to lose.say half a stone at a time.its not so daunting. I used to put a pound in a jar for each pound lost and 5 for a stone. It soon adds up and i used it for new clothes. Good luck and keep on this forum.the advise and help is fab and remember your not alone xxx
thank you for replying . yes i have downloaded the 12 week plan . i think walking is a good idea. its the evenings that i sit too much so i think its best to do walking then
Yes evenings are the worse.i usually save my ironing to keep me busy. Walking is so nice.i love it now.its not a chore anymore x
That’s what I’m trying to do. Even it’s just a few minutes more a day!
Hi unlucky77 I'm in a similar situation as you so let's support each other. I have had enough of how being overweight makes me feel so I have decided to do something about it this year.I think this forum is going to be a great tool in helping us not to give up. I think tracking what we eat, preparing meals in advance so as to be more aware of what we are eating is a good start. I have committed myself to following the 12 week plan and see where it gets me. I don't want to put too much pressure on myself by putting a target. Also try to be more active. I found some great walking workouts on you tube by Leslie Sandsone. I did one this morning and it was low impact and manageable. Just don't give up we owe it to ourselves to feel good about who we are.
Hi battleofthebulge, thank you for your reply , yes I need to have meals prepare and keep track of everything, I have downloaded the 12 week plan , so no going back now . I will have a look at the workout and see if it for me .
