Since my last post I have lost a LOT of weight ... NOT!!!! I am an even larger fatty lump!
Soo my fellow losers ( in the nicest possible way!) I am on a mission. Evening snack times are my BIG BIG BIG problem . So if there are any suggestions that I could implement I would be eternally grateful.

Me too! Wine and crisps get me every time. However I've been okay last two nights- have been looking at inspiring pictures on the internet - cleared the cupboards - again. I guess if it's not I the cupboard you just can't eat it!!
this week I went to the library and borrowed books from authors I didn't know, and read two books over the weekend- I was so involved in the (psychological thriller) stories I didn't have the urge to snack. Another idea is to plan your snacks - weigh them out and include them in the daily allowance- maybe have a smaller lunch like vegetable soup and a small roll. Then you can still eat snacks in the evening but not go over? Also investigate swaps; microwave popcorn vs peanuts; you can have a larger portion! I'm also also an evening eater. Keep checking in with the forum for motivation. Cheers,
You are not the only one to have had a few false starts on your weight loss journey. Being active on the forum really helps keep me focussed as does finding the right eating plan, with enough to eat to avoid hunger and deprivation. With regards to snacking, I find it easier to not snack at all, that way I can eat more at mealtimes and not feel hungry between meals
There have been a few changes recently so have a look at the Newbie Club
Distraction and removing temptation from my cupboards is working for me, I enjoy crafting, also one of my neighbours has started joining me on my little evening walks, it's nice to have the company as it helps take my mind off how much my knees hurt! 😂
Me too. Because I live very near my grandchildren & they're always popping in especially at the weekend when they quite often stay over, I always have various goodies in the cupboards and fridge so temptation is great. Mostly I stay strong but when I am tempted I follow advice I was given by someone on this forum and have some porridge or breakfast cereal, it seems to work.
Yup, I'm an evening grazer too. In the day I don't eat much, too busy, but then I get home, get bored, and start foraging. I've got in some carrot batons and low fat hummus that I can snack on that is tasty and healthy. I's also say to keep the healthier snacks at eye level at the front of the fridge. If something is shoved at the back behind other things I'll never remember it's there.
I know keeping busy in the evenings is the obvious answer - but honestly when you've been in work all day and you're drained who has the energy for that? I read a lot and if I find something I can be absorbed in I don't think about snacking much.
I also tend to make big batches of healthy dinners - firstly it takes a chunk of the evening, secondly I can snack on the veggies as I'm chopping them, thirdly I'll have left overs, and a few spoonfuls of a healthy chilli or bolognese when I go wandering into the kitchen is healthier and more filling than digging about for crisps.
Drink lots of water when you want to snack. It will make you full. Have lots of fruits and veggies ready if snacking is a must. Go take a bath or read a book. Distraction is key!
When I started, I used the NHS 12 week plan as my bible, I followed every idea and tip to the letter (errrm, when I wasn't having failing moments) ... obsessive I know but I was desperate to finally move on and didn't want to fail again.
Off the top of my head
. drinking lots of water before eating but also all the time
. eating off side plates or tiny bowls (did that for 6 months... even Sunday roast)
. don't skimp on any of the meals as they will help keep you right during the day
. having healthy snacks available
. eating everything slowly
I don't find getting rid of snacks out of the house works. I could turn a mouldy old boot into a snack if I felt hungry enough and turning butter, sugar & cocoa powder into a yummy treat takes no time at all
Apart from the 12 week plan, you're doing the right thing by asking here as this forum has a lot of canny people.
Thank you Tiggerr ... I will use the 12 week plan as my bible and will ask for help ... when I need it ! I loaughed at the mouldy old boot and confess to knowing exactly what you mean! .. and yes a microwave upside down cake can take me less than 5 mins!!!
I have a bottle of cold water in the fridge and 1/2 a one by the side of me ..
eating slowly I find hard as I get impatient !! ha ha
You're totally right, the slow eating is not easy but when you measure 20g of choccy as a treat you don't want it to go in one bite.
Other things that spring to mind...
. Split evening meal into two and eat the 2nd half later
. Have a dessert as part of your cal allowance (this shouldn't be more of a chore than it is) but same as above, give it half an hour or more until you get around to having it.
I can see you've got lots of excellent ideas and replies, so I just want to add that I wish you success with your plans - and hope it all goes really well.
Have a cut off time in the evening and stick to it at least four times a week. You don't need to eat at all - you're just craving. When nothing else works, go to bed
