I did my usual routine of getting up at 6:30 having my oatmeal and toast. Changed into my kit jumped on my bike and peddled to the rowing club.
The morning was a mixture of fine rain and sun but the scenery was beautiful. Making less stops and practicing my techniques for the 3 miles.
I reached the weir with a mission to go back with no stops. Like I was taught every 5 strokes check your back. I was going a little faster than usual as I was determined to go with no stops.
It happened so quick. 'Gloria watch out!!' By the time I checked I had someone's oar hit my back. Next thing you know, I was in the water, watching the boat's rigger coming down at me. I swam out of the way. I didn't get hit. Soon as it flipped over I hung onto it until help came.
Needless to say I fell off my diet too. I had a hot meal and a cider to reflect what happened today. Gave me time to think and decided I'll still race next weekend. My late father always said 'if you get knocked down you get back up and you try harder' so that's my mission.
I'm still shivering but I'm fine no broken bones or bruises.

Wow what an experience so glad you weren't hurt - think you deserved that drink and meal
Oh ShadowDee , it must have been a shock, first getting thumped the back and then falling into the cold water! Glad it hasn't put you off! Keep warm and I hope that you stop shivering soon! Good luck for the race next week!
ShadowDee my dear late father would have said - first have a decent meal and a glass of wine, or possibly good malt, then get back up and try harder. I'm sure it will help your recovery. Hope you're a bit better today.
Glad you're ok and ready to row again.👍😊
I'm trying to figure out what the board's rigger is.
