I was shocked as well when I started and my calorie allowance was 1700 to 2000 and I was 18 stone (roughly 8 stone overweight). I started with 1800, then reduced to 1700 and now I'm 1600 calories and I'm steadily losing weight (2st 7lbs since April).

Maybe pick a middle ground of 1600 calories and see how you go? It is suprising how it works but it does work.

Oh Beth that's an impressive weight loss since April, well done you.

Thank you, I've lost steadily at one to two pounds a week, with two weeks where I stayed the same. It does work, at least it does for me.

That's exactly what I'm aiming for, a steady 1 or 2lbs a week. Well done Beth & thank you, you've inspired me.

Everybody, when they first start out, thinks they can't possibly eat enough! You just need to rethink what you're eating and eat calorie dense foods.

I suggest you join the Daily Diary, for menu ideas :)

We always advise eating as much as you can, while still losing weight. Why not try aiming for 1600 calories and see how you get on? :)

I was 11st 10 and bmi gave me same calories as you. I try to stick to the 1400 cals and it seems to work for me. I am on week 5 and have lost 5lbs up to now and I have gone over a bit sometimes. Good luck.

Same here my daughter gets married next august and I want to be at least 10st by then. I know I will most probably go up a bit sometimes or just maintain , but you still have to keep focused.
