Menopause
Hi and welcome
Take a look at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), or in the drop down on the 'Posts' page (it says 'arrange by'). Read the Welcome Newbie thread, then move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you.
Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news.
Have a look at the NHS 12 week plan, as many people have had success with it. Also use the BMI (can be found in the pinned Newbie post) to find your target calories, it's important to eat enough. This was a major turning point for me, realising I could eat anything I wanted as long as the calories are accounted for 😊
Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate 😊
To the right of the HOME page (bottom on a mobile), you'll find Events. In there, you'll find links to our daily Weigh-in's (you will choose just one day per week), our Daily Diary, where we post our menu and exercise plans, for accountability, advice and support - which is great to get ideas of what other people are eating and I have to confess to nicking some of their menu's and our “What's happening today” thread, where we pop in for a chat.
Be aware, that the HU app doesn't give you access to all of our important features, so we advise that you use the full website page
We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too 😊
Wishing you all the best on your weight loss journey
Hello pennydrop 🙂 Welcome to the Forum
I am in a similar position after a hysterectomy but have (so far) managed not to gain, and have recently starting losing again, albeit very slowly. The menopause does make it difficult, especially if (like me) you like things like bread and pasta! Carbohydrates just seem to add the pounds I afraid 🙁
Have a read of the suggestions Cracker has made, and please ask if you have any questions 🙂
I'd heard that breast cancer treatment can kick ( and I use that word deliberately ) you into an early menopause. How annoying for you. I don't think that my reply is going to cheer you up much. I started about 18 years ago. I don't know wether I was particularly naive but I assumed it would be an end to the dreaded monthlies ( hoorah ) a couple of years of mood swings, hot sweats and weight gain, then.......let the rest of my life begin! 18 years later, I'm still struggling with my weight but it's now settling in new places, mainly midriff. It's a constant source of amusement to my family that I can turn beetroot red and sweaty at the sniff of a cork. I sleep fitfully and always in a wind tunnel with fan going. Covers off, covers on all night.
If Captain Birdseye is thinking of retiring from the fishfinger adverts ( if he hasn't already ) then I'm available. No need for make up. ( You may be too young for that reference, just think unwanted facial hair )
The good news, every woman is different. And although it takes more effort, the weight can be shifted. You may find it a doddle and sail through. I hope so. And as you are discovering, there's always someone on this forum with helpful advice, just not me this time. Best of luck.
Hi thank you so much for your wise words of support. Feeling positive now and ready to hit the gym and study and follow the NHS 12 week diet. My oncologist put me on a low dose of venlafaxine to help with the sweat's after about a month they reduced to.about 30 % so maybe you could look into that take care
