I am planning to go out with the family today and do not want to put the weight on I have lost. Dilemma is do I graze on salad or go for burger and chocolate cake? Then pick up the pieces the next day?
How do you still have good food eating out and not put on the weight?

Dont deprive yourself, dont graze on salad. Have the burger without chips and a sorbe maybe, this will set new standards for u. A new point of reference to reflect to and you will be sooo proud of you. Its all about moderation
I know this is going against everything that is said but for me I have to think of this as not a diet. If I fancy something I will have it. We have to be able to go out and enjoy ourselves its just being more mindful of what we are eating. Try and work out how many kcals it will be and work with it. Enjoy your meal out, another option is a sunday lunch, its not too many kcals if you have the meat and veg...then you have room for the cake.
Hi Waterbaby eating out can be difficult when you start to eat healthy as there are not always healthy choices available. I certainly wouldn't deprive myself but what I did at the beginning and still do yet to a certain extent is to ask my self, do I really want that? If I want to lose weight this week do I really want to eat chocolate, puddings, chips etc? Would I rather compromise and go for something lower calorie and healthier and have a weight loss at the end of the week. I know many people see a meal out as a treat and want to have anything they fancy but sadly losing weight and keeping it off is about changing your lifestyle for ever. Things do get easier as you get into your healthy eating as healthy choices will hopefully become habit. Don't be too hard on yourself but do ask yourself if you really want it and if the answer is yes, have it, enjoy it and don't give yourself a hard time.
If I know I am going to eat out, I try and compensate for the additional calories for being extra good before have and then being extra good afterwards. The the meal itself, I'll go for a fairly low calorie option (doesn't have to be salad - perhaps just ask for salad in place of chips, etc) and cut out the alcohol. See if someone will share a dessert with you if you feel you can't go without. I'll often have a cappuccino instead of a sweet.
Thank you to everyone that has replied. I went for the burger and chips and 2 slices of choc cake - it felt good! But not so good after.
I will take all your advice and next time either look at the veggie options or as Pineapple27 suggested just simply swap unhealthy food for healthier ones.
I have gone out twice for birthdays while I have been here in the 2 weeks. The first meal I ate everything and felt crap carried on when I got home...I ruled the day off and stuck to the kcals all week, but then I still have had choc everyday, just little bars for 100kcals..i know not everyone does but for me I have a huge habit to kick I couldn't cut it out in an instance. The 2nd meal I had out was pizza hut. I worked out the kcals before I went..and I enjoyed the 2 pizzas of chicken pizza and my drink was water. I felt part of it while not going too much over. I have lost both weeks because I feel I am making changes and I am becoming more mindful of whats going in.
Dont feel guilty, you had a good time and now your back on it. Its not going to make a huge difference if you stick to things. I know I may change to a point my advice will be massively different but I do think when your just starting out its important to understand feeling bad gets you nowhere...feeling great and carrying on will make the difference...good luck with the week and I will keep my eye out for your weigh in
Thank you, your post has been very helpful. I do feel very bad and dreading tomorrow's weigh in but I have had a lovely day with my family. There is always time in week two to redeem myself.
