Trying to keep weight off(again!)

I am just within the healthy weight range for my height and age and I want to drop 10 - 12 pounds . I find it hard just trying to keep weight off. I love walking and yoga and am reasonably fit for my age but it feels like I get bored with it all, and then the weight creeps on again. I don't want to go there! Anyone going through this too?

Hello ACEKS5 and welcome to the Weight Loss Forum

Weight loss certainly gets more difficult as we get older, but the good news is, many people lose and then maintain their losses. 😊

Here are a few suggestions on how to get the most out of the forum. Please note if you are using the new HU App many of these features are not available so I suggest you use the full website version.

The first place to look is at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), read the Welcome Newbie thread first and move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you. Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news

Have a look at the NHS 12 week plan, as many people have had success with it. Also use the BMI checker to find your target calories, it's important to eat enough. This was a major turning point for me, realising I could eat anything I wanted as long as the calories are accounted for. Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate

The forum also have group weigh-ins every day, as well as a new Daily Diary, if you wish to take part. The posts can always be found in the Events section on the 'home' page. And if you just want to chat, to say hello or share any news or struggles then look out for What's Happening Today thread.

You'll notice a grey box next to people's names, these are achievement badges, and as a new member you have a 'Newbie' badge. We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too. If you have any questions please just ask

Best wishes

Anna

I learned to run last year using the NHS Couch to 5 k programme and now run 25 km pr week in a running club. It has been life changing to learn how to run and it helps me keep the weight off. I strongly recommend it.

Hi Acesks5 :-) - You sound in a similar situation to me. I lost approx 45lbs a year or so ago using this forum, which took me down to mid-range healthy BMI. Since then, I've allowed some weight to steadily creep back on, so that I am a couple of lbs above healthy BMI again.

So, like you, I'm trying to lose approx 14-16lbs to get back to where I was :-)

As PippiRuns says, running might really help (I stopped through injury and never got back into the habit). I find that not only does it help keep the weight off, but that if I am in a running habit, I automatically seem to better watch what I eat (perhaps the running helps keep boredom at bay ?) Is this something you could get into ?

The thing I've really learnt is that I'm not to be trusted, and when I gain a small amount of weight I'm not going to listen to my inner voices telling me "that's ok - I'll soon lose it again !!!" - because clearly I have no willpower :-) :-) :-)

Hi ACEKS5 and all your replies - I agree with all of that! I am back to lose some weight again. I lost two stone between August last year and April this year which was fantastic! I hadn't felt so good for years but I've taken my eye off the ball - stopped recording my calories and taking part in the HU forum to record my weight - and it's no surprise that I have put some weight back on. Just trying to kick start myself again and get excited about exercise, good diet, fresh air - it's Summer for goodness sake and I feel stodgy!!
