Hi all I'm new to this I am wanting to lose at least 2 had stone and have 14 months to do this any advice on how I can easily achieve this . I do really well with food Monday to Thursday then Friday and the weekend arrives and all my good work is gone in drink.or fatty foods. I make all my food from scratch as I don't really like processed foods. I think I just need to include exercise into my daily routine as currently do nothing but not sure whether the gym is the answer or not any helpful suggestions welcome x

You sound just like me! I've also got a few stone to lose and cook from scratch. Yesterday I measured everything which is something I've resisted doing and I calorie counted everything. I didn't enjoy it but I soon realised how much extra I eat such as lots of milk for hot drinks throughout the day and sugar. So today is my second day of controlled eating. Exercise definitely helps. However I know it must be fun and sustainable. I'm still working on this. Have a good day x
I have been told previously i dont eat enough and need to eat more. I just struggle eating when not hungry . I used to swim daily and loved swimming so feel this may be a good starting point in getting more exercise and hoping it will make me feel more hungry so I also eat more too 🙂
The Hot drinks with milk and sugar during the day resonates with me. I really need to break off the habit to lose weight
Hi and welcome, Lesley
If the gym is something that you'd like to do, then by all means go, but don't think that joining a gym is necessarily going to be the answer to weight loss. I suspect it has more to do with your lack of control at the weekends. By joining us, you'll learn how to be mindful, every day
Take a look at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), or in the drop down on the 'Posts' page (it says 'arrange by'). Read the Welcome Newbie thread, then move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you.
Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news.
Take a look at the NHS 12 week plan, as a lot of people have been successful with it, making sure to enter your details into the BMI calculator, to get a calorie allowance tailored to your personal requirements. Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate.
We run a weigh-in every day of the week and you'd be very welcome to join one of them. The threads can always be found in the Events section, to the right of the HOME page, bottom on a mobile.
We also run a Daily Diary, where we share our meal and exercise plans for the day. It's a great place to get ideas and to keep us focused. The link can also be found in Events.
Be aware, that the HU app doesn't give you access to all of our important features, so we advise that you use the full website page.
We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too.
It's only left for me to wish you well on your journey
Hi I can't seem to.find any of the parts you have suggested I'd like to see the 12 week plan but can't find it .
I've lost over 4 stone and am 10lbs away from my goal weight of 9 stone. I am making a huge effort at the moment to lose a few more lbs ahead of a 2 week holiday in two weeks.
During the week, my rule is to stick to 800 calories if I am able to (because I am very short and sedentary my weight loss calories are presently 1100 a day and just 1300 maintenance). Then at weekends I allow myself a bit more freedom. Usually about 1800 calories a day.
Evening snacking - from my experience, can be the real undoing of all of ones good efforts in terms of weight loss! During the week, I have made a rule that there is no snacking after my evening meal (my main meal of the day). I eat this at 5pm. So far, so good, I am managing to stick to this little rule.
Watching TV and all the food ads can provide (and indeed are intended to provide) a trigger to make you think about food. If you watch TV, go out of the room and do a few steps around the rest of the house whilst they are on?
No absolute need to include exercise - most of my weight was lost without an ounce of exercise!
Hey welcome... this is my 5th week and I was having the same problems weekends and periods have been a nightmare.. I too need to loose 2 stone but I have til august as I have my brothers wedding... I have started walking more and now joined gym, the gym really helps as you know how hard you need to work to burn of a chocolate bar or naught foods and you think twice.
I was a calorie counter but now I love it simply because it gives me a target and using my fitbit has been brilliant.
Good luck
