Hi and welcome due to being pregnant please check with your midwife / doctor before starting any diet (none of us on here, that I am aware of, are medically trained)

As for eating healthy through your pregnancy then that is great and will benefit you and the baby :)

My advice as a mother to you would be to eat a balanced diet of fruit veg meat dairy etc and avoid the foods your midwife tells you too (sorry can't remember what they all are now as my pregnancies were years ago - but one no no is raw eggs so homemade mayonaise is a no no etc) - but as I said above I am not medically trained this is just me saying what I think as a friend :)

Wish you all the best in your pregnancy

Hi please do not make your weight loss your priority at this time. Do make your and your babies health your priority. If possible go for foods without additive even though they may say all natural. Stay away from empty carbs like most breads and pastas. Stay away fron hfc and use healthier sugars like coconut sugar. Make a desert a real treat not a common place deal. But when you choose to endulge make it quality and know what's in your food. There are great recipes online for a healthier version of almost everything. LEARN HOW YOUR BODY USES WHAT YOU PUT INTO IT. Your veggies and fruits are paramount. If you like eggs, they are crucial. Try to English in all colors of veggies daily even if its in a smoothy. Be very careful about oils you use and how they effect your body. Everything in moderation. When they say you are eating for two its true. But its more important to eat healthy not more. When eating for life you do not need to eat as much to get more from your food. With some creativity you can satisfy all your craving needs in a healthy way. DEEP BREATHING EEXERCISES ARE SO IMPORTANT. Don't stop exercising. Eating for yours and babies life will change how your body uses food for energy and you need to use that energy properly. You may not lose weight while pregnant but you not gain much either. Your hormones play abig part in all of it. If you continue eating for your life after your baby is born the weight will come off and your hormones will fall in line with the natural you.

God Bless you and baby.

congratulations, will this be your first baby? I am not pregnant myself but we are looking at trying again once I am back to a healthier weight. I too have a BMI currently around 30, it was higher just five weeks ago when I started the 12 week plan. I am sure you can fulfill "eating healthier" for the duration of your pregnancy, something I am looking to do better at hopefully second time around. (didnt quite manage it correctly the first time unfortunately, then had further complications with my abdomen after the birth of my little boy which lead to over eating and lack of exercise). would love to follow your progress, please continue to share advice for the future, congratulations again :)

Hi Ashford,

I'm afraid I have to alert you to the recommendations for the 12 week plan

"Is this plan for me?

This guide is intended for use by healthy adults with a body mass index (BMI) of 25 and over. Find out if you need to lose weight using the BMI healthy weight calculator.

It is not suitable for children and young people or pregnant women. If you have a medical condition, you should consult your GP before starting."

I would therefore advise you to seek guidance from your GP/midwife, before embarking on anything that could potentially harm you, or your unborn baby.

Wishing you a happy pregnancy and a safe delivery :)

Speak to midwife or gp. SlimmingWorld do a plan for pregnant women. I lost lots of weight the first time I was preggers but could only eat ginger biscuits x

Hi, I'm not pregnant and have no intentions of becoming pregnant again :) however, during my first pregnancy I developed gestational diabetes (not really weight related as I was only slightly overweight, it was due to health conditions). It was so difficult, but it kind of forced me into eating healthily for my baby and myself. I found it was important to make sure I was eating enough of the right foods, lots of healthy vegetables, some fruit, plenty of calcium, whole grains etc. I cut out all sugary foods, i only had a sweet treat very occasionally. Towards the end of the pregnancy I had a bowl of high fibre low sugar cereal every night to make up the extra calorries needed. All of this kept the diabetes under control and I avoided gaining unnecessary weight. After my daughter was born i felt so slim!!! Obviously I had shed my huge baby bump, but also I had prevented myself from putting on loads of weight during the pregnancy. People said all sorts of things to me "oh go on have a cake, the baby needs the calories" or the classic "you're eating for two now"! However whilst I stress that i knew it was very important to ensure I was eating enough as I was growing a brand new human being! I also had the knowledge that I didn't actually need to eat all that much more than I should be eating anyway and that it was really important for baby and me that I ate the right types of food, not only because of the diabetes but also for our health.

Anyway my daughter is now 12 and as tall as me and very active, slim and healthy so I think I must have done an okay job!!!!!!

As others have said it's important to see a health care professional for advice, maybe your midwife could help you to make sure that you are eating enough etc, or could refer you to a specialist midwife perhaps.

Good luck and enjoy your pregnancy.
