Taking control!

As well as getting older I am getting bigger by the day. Has now reached a point where I have to do something about my weight before it badly affects my health. I have painful joint problems and being so overweight must be making it worse. I also worry I could develop diabetes. Help!

You have come to the right place. I'm sure an administrator will welcome you in the morning. Take a look at the NHS 12 week plan for starters and read all you can on here. Any question, just ask away. There's always a friendly ear here:)

Welcome hope you are well the twelve week course is good place to start x

Morning Fran and thanks for posting.

As lucigret mentioned, one of the admins will reply to your post with lots of useful information, which is well worth taking the time to understand.

You don't say why you have painful joints but losing weight would go some way to relieving pressure on them.

Good luck!

Good morning Fran66 and welcome to the forum. Many of have reached that point and actually it is a good thing because it means we can take positive steps towards a healthier lifestyle. 😀 Take a look at the pinned post for newbies on the right hand side of your screen or the bottom if it's a mobile. It gives lots of good tips about how to use the site and links to great things like this NHS 12 week plan which many of us have started with and had some success. Use the NHS BMI calculator to work out how many calories you should be eating.

I wish you luck and determination 😀

Hello Fran66 and welcome to the weight loss forum 😊

You've had a lovely welcome from some of our members already, and I hope you've had chance to read the newbies post, check out the 12 week plan, and generally have a good look around 😊

I was also really struggling health wise when I began my journey, I feel like a different person now and so will you 😊 Finding an eating plan where I could eat all my favourite foods and not be hungry is a big factor, so check out the NHS bmi calculator which will suggest your target calories, which is often more than you think 😊

The forum runs weigh in groups on 7 days a week that you are welcome to join, although Monday is fully subscribed. You can find these in 'Events' or they're normally pretty high up on the newsfeed. 😊

If you have any questions please just ask 😊

Best wishes

Anna

You and Me both. I understand how you feel about your weight and yes it cannot help with your joints, blood pressure and most importantly, your self esteem. I wish you the greatest success with the onslaught on your diet.

Hi am new to site and am insulin dependent diabetic , have fibro (all over body) chronic heart disease .arthritis and spondylosis weigh 18 stone and have just had first weigh in at slimming world ( arranged by diabetic nurse) .told at first intro talk that if we (5 of us) followed the plan we could lose 7 lb in the first week .Having tried it 2 years ago with a leader who was not very encouraging ,I was very sceptical but even as someone who did not do exactly what was told ,mainly because of 4 hypo's and wife insisting I eat something with carbs to raise blood levels and keep them constant ,no one was more astounded than me to be told I had lost 7lbs .I am not very good at following the books which can be confusing I am aiming for the same this week.

It is obvious that a good group leader is essential and we meet on a Friday me at 9.30am and 2 others at 7,30am and 11.30 and each group has over 50 members yet with helpers every one is seen and helped. All I can say if I can do it anyone can .,so good look and go for it.
