It's an age thing

I am at that "certain age" where monthly cycles are changing.... I have gained weight and find it very difficult to lose any at moment. Is there anything specific/foods I need to avoid? Apart from "usual unhealthy snacks"

Any advice would be great

Hello Hidden

Menopause definitely affects weight loss, it becomes tougher to lose, and also our shape, hormonal changes tend to encourage weight gain around our middles 😕 It can also affect our joints causing aches and pains. I'm not making it sound much fun am I? Lol 😁

I read Miriam Stoppard's book which was very useful, she advocates eating earlier in the day, taking the bulk of our carbohydrates at lunch and breakfast ☺ I also restrict the quantity, and try to vary it, oats for breakfast, bread at lunch, and (if I have any) potatoes or rice in the evening for example. I'm sceptical about supplements, but I do take cod liver oil with vitamin D as I don't eat much fish.

Remember that for weight loss we need to eat fewer calories than we burn, for good health we need to eat a balanced and varied diet, and for general fitness (and shape) we need to exercise ☺

At the end of the day, weight loss after the menopause is tough but not impossible ☺

I hope this is helpful, I'm not an expert by any means but if you have any questions just ask.☺

Best wishes

Anna

Thanks for taking the time to respond. I will have a look at the book and keep trying to keep focused.

Hi and welcome, Newgirl :)

Take a look at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), read the Welcome Newbie thread, then move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you :)

Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news :)

Take a look at the 12 week plan, as a lot of people have been successful with it, making sure to enter your details into the BMI calculator, to get a calorie allowance tailored to your personal requirements. Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate :)

We run daily weigh-in's and you'd be very welcome to join us. The threads can always be found in the Events section, to the right of the home page, bottom on a mobile.

We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too :)

It's only left for me to wish you well on your journey :)
