Really struggling to control my eating so thinking of joining weight watchers again.
Had some success past two occasions managed to lose a stone each time but put it back on over the following year. Any advise?? Not putting on weight but not losing any either as I can't seem to get motivated.

What motivates you to lose weight? If you think what you will gain from being lighter - is it worth it? Losing weight is hard you know that, how much do you want it?? If you really want it, you can do it and we will all support you. Motivation needs to come from within, for me it was because I couldn't do some of the things I wanted to do on holiday - like walk all day or go on the zip wire. Everyone is different, only you can motivate YOU! Good luck 🤞
I was motivated before to lose weight for my daughter's wedding as I wanted to look ok on the photos and not let her down. I have another family wedding in June so maybe that could be my motivation again. Also I have an issue with my kidneys and being a bit lighter would be better for my health, so really I should just get on with it once and for all!!
Absolutely, photos at a wedding can be a real motivator for you. How about getting a photo of where you are now and if where you would like to be and use these to inspire you. You could put them on the fridge etc. Also, buy healthy food so that you don't have temptation around you. I bought a small jar of chic spread for my husband for pancake day and it is already calling me from the cupboard, usually I wouldn't even think about eating such junk but because it is in the house I want it. I am not going to eat it tho. Got to lose 2lb to get my 5 stone badge!! Needless to say whatever he doesn't eat on Tuesday is going straight in the bin!
Yes it certainly is, made a good start with an early morning swim (64 lengths) and planning a healthy salad lunch and stir fry tea. Would like to shift 2 stones but would be happy with 1.5 st so long as my face slims down!!! 😀
Hello claudia76 and welcome to the weight loss forum ☺
The first place to look is at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), read the Welcome Newbie thread first and move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you ☺
Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news ☺
Have a look at the NHS 12 week plan, as many people have had success with it. Also use the BMI checker to find your target calories, it's important to eat enough. This was a major turning point for me, realising I could eat anything I wanted as long as the calories are accounted for ☺ I am a big fan of WW and have lost weight three times in the past with them, but I now realise I needEd to make permanent change to my eating habits. This is why finding the corect target calories is so important.
Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate ☺
The forum also have group weigh-ins every day if you wish to take part. The posts can always be found in the Events section on the 'home' page ☺
We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too ☺
You'll notice a grey box next to people's names, these are achievement badges, and as a new member you may have a 'Newbie' badge. If you have any questions or would like a Newbie badge please just ask ☺
We all do it differently Claudia. Ella has a different approach to mine. Whatever your approach it has to be sustainable, a change in your eating habits for life, not a diet. Above all else you must make sure you are eating enough, eating too little will not make you loose weight, your body will just hang on to what you have. Check your BMI on the NHS Choices site to see how many calories you should be eating. At the moment you have obviously found how much to eat to maintain where you are. Maybe just some small changes to start with will make a difference. My advise is to read as much as you can on here, there are lots of people on here who have achieved their goals and lots on their way to their goals who have lost a lot of weight along the way. The posts can be motivational as can the support you get. Ella is right though, you have to know why you want it, we can support but you need to find the motivation. How about writing a list of all the reasons you think being slimmer would make you happy and sticking it to your fridge. Good luck.
Thanks for all your comments I am feeling more positive that I can succeed now and will write that list tomorrow. I always have loads of excuses like family stuff going on but am going to concentrate on this for me.
Your welcome claudia76 . It's not easy when family are around. I used the same excuse for 30 odd years. Since starting this journey in January, I have had some trying experiences when family have been around and up untill today, I have weathered every storm and come through it, because I have been mindful of what I have eaten. Today is another story, food has come into my house that shouldn't have been here, I haven't been mindful and I am now going to bed feeling bloated and stretched and horrible. I already hate this feeling. I can't wait for tomorrow so that I can do some exercise, throw out the remains of what wasn't taken away and get back to my normal. My food for tomorrow has all been written down and counted. The first thing on my list right now would be 'Remember how horrible it feels to have eaten too much' Never mind - put it down to experience and back on the wagon tomorrow!
I read somewhere that gut bacteria affect our cravings and I know that for me anyway, processed foods are like crack cocaine for cravings. Once I manged to cut them out and cut out nearly all sugar with the exception of fresh fruit (no juice tho) and small amounts of honey or maple syrup, my body sort of reset itself. I do eat good fats though, nuts, olive oil and the like...Exercise goals help - I've got this vision of myself as this athletic, fit sporty person who can do loads of things I can't do now that drives me so as EllaMidlands says, what motivates you?
You said it yourself-you can lose weight with WW but put it back on again. It really is only a lifestyle change that will give you a sustainable weight loss. Decide what you can change on a permanent basis and concentrate on those, you can add other things in later as and when you can manage it.
I would also put your WW fees in a jar with a sheet full of personal rewards that you can strike off and pay for from your WW fund. Only you can lose your weight and you have to do it the best way for you.
