Alcohol Free is the way to go.

Hi everyone,

I have been on this weight loss programme since the New Year. I started at 12 stone 8 and now weigh 12 stone 4. Although I have lost weight , it seems to be so slow and steady.

I am 50 and wonder if my age has anything to do with it.

MY downfall is wine, lowering my consumption has had no affect whatsoever, so I have cut wine out completely and have lost 2 pounds already this week , which has truly spurred me on !

I do an average of three hours exercise per week , including an hour with a personal trainer who thrashes me.

My problem is , I really struggle to eat 1400 calories a day. I have beans on toast for breakfast , usually an omelette or a tuna salad for lunch and then a small supper in the evening. Am I eating enough to lose weight ? But I do feel full. Any suggestions gratefully received .

Weight loss is encouraging but sooo slow .

Hi outdoorgirl,

Alcohol free is good

Age is definitely a factor in losing weight, I am 70 and have been a yoyo dieter for years and I find that the older I get the more difficult it is to lose weight

It doesn't sound to me that you are eating enough variety, you say you have beans on toast for breakfast, is that the same every day? If it is I suggest changing it. Try having a different breakfast every day for a week and maybe you could increase your calories by building in an afternoon snack

Quite a lot of people I know, myself including, find cutting out , or seriously reducing the amount of bread they eat helps increase weight loss.

Another tip is following your exercise program is to have a small high protein snack.

I hope some of my thoughts may be of benefit to you.

Keep posting and let us know how you are getting on. Good luck 😉

What sort of protein snacks would you suggest after exercise ?

Arla Protein pot is a good option or maybe eggs. Bean salad. Skinless Chicken or a yogurt x

hi... maybe have a word with your personal trainer about your diet.. they should be able to advice you... ive put on weight since starting exercise and mine said that its "normal" to put on weight when you 1st start exercising more.

the time of day you eat carbs can have an effect too... i now only eat carbs after a workout..

Dont focus on just what the scales say... take measurements... how do your clothes feel ... do you have more energy... these are more important factors than a number on a scale x

Hi ,

Thanks for your comments . My PT calls the scales the miserable step !! Everyone feels fed up when they get on them !!

She has told me it's not about weight but changing body shape . My weight yoyoed at the beginning , but she insists this is due to the development of muscle .I guess it's a case of retraining my brain to accept it is not all about weight .

Men have a beer belly , my two teenage boys describe mine as a wine wobble !!

Although my 17 yr old , told me this morning that I am looking thinner around my middle . He got a huge hug !

I am not to be deterred , slow and steady is better than nothing .

You have some good advice already and the weight will go for sure.

Good move cutting out the wine. I have a glass of red once every two weeks but I measure it -125ml- and then I really savour that first mouthful. After that I top the glass up with water. Still get the taste but without any undesirable side effects.

Good luck with your journey.
