Pre-cooking meals!

Hi everyone, I'm new on this healthy living journey and I am seeking some advice! I work in a bar and often eat from our menu (5 times a week) as it is too busy to go out and get something most of the time. Obviously the food we serve is not the healthiest option being bar food (pizzas, burgers etc) especially when you are eating it 5 times a week.

I have always wanted to be able to pre-prepare meals, possibly the night before, and bring food to work to either reheat or eat cold but I am stumped for ideas of the best things to make.

Anyone got any good ideas of healthy, energy fuelling meals that are easy to pre-cook and reheat...?

Thanks!

Hello RunaroundRuby and welcome to the weight loss forum ☺

The first place to look is at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), read the Welcome Newbie thread first and move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you ☺

Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news ☺

Have a look at the NHS 12 week plan, as many people have had success with it. Also use the BMI checker to find your target calories, it's important to eat enough. Working in a bar does make eating properly difficult 😕

You don't say what hours you work but I'm guessing quite late? A substantial healthy breakfast would set you. Do you get proper breaks? A burger on its own isn't necessarily bad, extra salad would help. Do you have access to a microwave? I'm sure our lovely members will have lots of suggestions ☺

The forum also have group weigh-ins every day, but they are quite busy. If you wish to take part Sunday is the quietest day but you are welcome to join any day. The threads can always be found in the Events section, to the right of the 'home' page, or at the very bottom (after all the posts) on a mobile.☺

We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too ☺

You'll notice a grey box next to people's names, these are achievement badges, and as a new member you may have a 'Newbie' badge. If you have any questions or would like a Newbie badge please just ask ☺

Best wishes

Anna

You could pre-oven bake potatoes/sweet potatoes, put them in the freezer and take one to work each day with separate small tubs of tuna mayo/hummous/salads etc. Then reheat potato in microwave and add toppings. I also use those flip-sided tupperware boxes and layer up precooked rice noodles, thinly sliced veg, pre fried tofu or quorn, plum sauce + soy sauce, then microwave it at work and stir it all together. Smells and tastes really good. There's always the pasta and pesto with mixed in roast veggies option too (can be made in batches and frozen for the week) :) Hope that gives you some ideas. Basically add loads of veg/salad and it immediately becomes a healthier option. And make sure you have good tupperware in different sizes as some things are best transported/stored separately :)

Try soups and stews. Curry and bolognaise made with fresh ingredients. If you work evenings, then eat your main meal in the day and just take a snack in for work. Cup a soups, mixed salads or crispbreads. If you have a burger then leave the bun. Good luck.
