Don't know why it's taken me so long, denial I think, knew I was overweight and my knees are starting to really hurt and according to NHS chart I'm 3 stone overweight for my tiny height. Have been so lazy over the years and really want to change my ways to be healthy. I feel like a light has been switched on and I want and need to do this. Any encouragement will help no end and any success stories too

Hello Siobhan79 π
I felt exactly the same as you and I'm well on the way to a healthier fitter me π Getting your head in the right place is the first most important step so well done! Our brain really is our ally on this journey π
Have a look at the links lowcal suggested, also work out your bmi and target calories, the days of 1000 calorie starvation diets are long gone, thankfully!! π
Good luck and very best wishes π
Inspiration ...not to mention a reminder to myself why I have to stay with the mindful eating;
This time last year I was puffing up the hills, not able to enjoy a good walk. Too fat to ride a horse, too heavy to haul myself out of the bath, knees hurting every night, taking far too many painkillers and feeling really old.
Now, 3 stone lighter (still a stone to go) I can run up a hill, leap onto a horse, spring out of the bath and get a decent night's sleep without needing any pain-killers! I feel 10 years younger and feel far more respect for my body - after all, I can't trade it in for a new one!
Good luck with your new-found determination - recommend getting a calorie counting app and chatting on this forum frequently - it all helps to keep you focussed.
Hi Siobhan,
Just wanted to wish you every success.
You have had some fantastic advice from other forum members and, after a lifetime of struggling with my weight and too many attempts to lose the wretched blubber that I have lost count, at last I have found a way that suits me. The NHS 12 week plan and the support of the wonderful people on this forum have made a world of difference to me. It has helped to eat as much as I can while also losing weight (check out the NHS BMI calculator) , and also to focus on making small, sustainable changes which build up over time, rather than trying to become a different person over-night. Exercise is important, and rather than using exercise as a tool to use calories, I tried out activities to find things that I loved to do so that I knew I would keep them going. I finally settled on ballroom dancing, walking and the gym (yes, I really enjoy going and have just started to introduce a little weight training which is great fun).
I have lost 4 1/2 stone now and it is still coming off. I don't feel deprived and eat out with friends and family all the time, but I eat mindfully and have smaller portions. Portion control was my downfall and I had to weigh food for quite a while. Although I didn't do this intentionally, I appear to have swapped sedentary hobbies to active ones and I can dance the night away and do a very brisk 5 mile walk with ease now. When I started it was all I could do to walk 1/4 mile to the shops. Most important of all, my kidneys are working much better, my blood pressure has dropped, my blood glucose has decreased significantly and I truly feel like I have turned the clock back a decade or two.
Good luck x
An inspiring post, it gives me encouragement as well as being a great welcome to Siobhan.
