Counting calories definately works, I've been doing it since last October, the only other thing i used was will power to make sure it was the right calories lol and all sugar and carbs i mean the wrong ones. I'm still not too sure what is right or wrong but i must be doing something right as ive lost 44lb without any excercise do to health problems, good luck on your journey onwards and downwards 😁👍

Calorie counting - to me - is the only thing that works :-)

Isn't it nice when you prove someone wrong?! well done!

I think calorie counting is great as long as you eat enough calories. I am a 24 stone woman and when using the app myfitnesspal as recommended by the bariatric service locally it was recommended I eat 2330 calories a day to lose 1 pound a week. I have consistently lost about 1pound a week and have lost about 17 pounds in the time I have been doing it. I have never eaten so much on a weight loss plan or had as much choice. Had I been eating 1500 calories as a lot of people recommend I would be having cravings and rebound binges and giving up. The extra calories make the weight loss sustainable long term and there is no need to give up as it is very easy. All my other weight loss attempts have been very difficult and needed a lot of determination and almost obsession to keep going. I have sometime kept it up for several months feeling that I have been doing great and losing loads of weight only to finally give up and rapidly regain all weight lost

Hi, I think this is a very interesting point. I am at the other end of the diet experience, as I've just got a few pounds to lose and therefore have to stick to around 1200-1300 cals a day to have any chance of shifting 1lb a week. I find it is tough, but it is possible as long as I fill up on lots of low cal vegetables and keep my mind occupied with other things so I don;t dwell on food.

However, if you can eat over 2000 cals and lose 1lb a week, I think it's great, and it's opbviously working for you. And I think you are right that having something you can actually stick to for the long haul is the most important thing.

You might find you have to cut down more as you get nearer your target - but cross that bridge when you come to it!

Hello, I agree that calorie counting does work - as long as you stick the the right allowance, which you obviously have been doing. Then it works like magic.

I think people who say it doesn't work, or won't work for them, are really not in the right frame of mind to commit to losing weight, so it all seems too much of a chore.

I think the advantage of calorie counting is both that it is maths, you have to lose weight if you consumer fewer cals than you use. Plus it is accountable, you know if you are on track or not.

With the "general cut down", "just do healthy eating" approach you don;t have certainty, and I think the danger is of losing and putting back on the same few pounds, which is so disheartening.
